Syrian hamsters are nocturnal (Like all other hamsters) So do not wake them up when they are asleep, as this an cause a terrible sickness from stress. It's called wet tail. It does have a cure, but your hammie can die very soon with having it. Most owners make this simple mistake and there hamster dies. Waking up your hamster should be avoided weather tamed or not.
Please be careful when you pick your syrian up. It gets frightened very easily especially when it is not fully tamed. When you are playing with your hammy, make sure to provide it with tones of treats so it doesn't get stressed. Also when He/She begins to shake, Squeak, or is constantly using the bathroom, then take your hamster and put it right back in it's cage. These are signs of stress and should be avoided at all costs. If not, wet tail can occur. Your hamster will use the bathroom alot. Especially when you are handling your Syrian. This does not mean he/she is stressed. Make sure to look for all the signs first. Shaking is number one.
Syrians have an amazing personality. If treated properly, they will be your best friend for their whole life. They live up to two years, and are known to live much longer if properly cared for. They need to be in there own cage, Syrians don't like to share there space. If not, they will fight. Stay close to the bottom of the cage when handling your Syrian. They can fall. Don't hold them to go above the ground.
Clean bedding out of its food bowl. Keep your hammie out of direct sunlight. Don't overcrowd the cage with toys. Keep your hamster in a decent temperature room, otherwise they can go into hibernation. Your hamster could appear to be dead.
WARNING: Consider this before buying a Syrian. They are pretty hard to shop for. Finding the right size of wheel and play tubes will be a bit hard, but not to challenging.
