"No no Emma. It is left, right, open and extends. You are getting it wrong." Mrs H yelled at the poor girl exasperated. "Girls, take a break. Emma, keep practising. I'll not let you leave unless you ace it."
I sighed with relief and found a corner to sit down. My feet hurt like I have been running a marathon for a decade. Okay, a little exaggeration. But it sure felt like it. The state dance championship was approaching soon enough which had Mrs H nerves on the edge, trying to keep us well coordinated and unique with the choreography.
"Okay everybody get up. Fast. Fast. We'll practice one more time and then you all are done for the day." I put my phone down and took my position in the front left corner.
"Great practice girls. I'll see you all tomorrow. Emma, you wait here." She dismissed us as Emma let out a tired and feeble attempt to get out of this. I have known Mrs Harrington for 6 years now and I knew that girl wasn't leaving before an hour at least.
Oh baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle? I'm losing my mind just a little.
Uh oh! This can't be good. God, please don't let Scarlett ditch me here today. I am famished.
"Hello! What's up Scar?"
"Um, there's a teeny problem babe. Rob took my car and hasn't returned. He isn't even picking my call. So I'll not be able to pick you up today. I am so sorry."
Shit. Shit. Shit.
I cannot walk all the way home today of all the days. I don't have the energy.
"Don't worry. I'll ask Ollie or Tay to pick me up."
"But haven't they gone for a movie today? They were discussing this during lunch today."
Oh, shoot! I completely forgot.
Looks like walking it is. Me and my loneliness. Hand in hand today. Walking through the deserted roa.
"You still there?"
"Oh yeah. I'll walk home. No big deal." No big deal, my ass.
"Are you plotting my murder right now?" This made me chuckle she knew me all too well.
"Yeah. But I'm confused between poisoning and strangling you. What would you personally prefer?" I mocked her as I tied my shoelace.
"Okay, you dramatic ass. Start walking home. It's already getting dark. Text me once you reach home." We bid goodbye as I grabbed my things.
Times like these make me feel that I should learn to drive. But getting behind the wheel and worrying about me as well as the others was not my cup of tea. I stepped out of the school and the looming grey clouds loomed all over the sky. Luck is definitely not in my favour tonight. I put in my earphones and started walking home humming lightly to myself. The walk from school to my home is approximately 15 minutes if I go through the shabby alleyways or else it would be a good 30-minute walk. I've seen enough movies to know what happens in the alleyways but do people learn from movies? No. Would I act smart and not go through there? No.
So, I took a turn and prayed to the big one to let me get back home in one piece. I was walking silently minding my own business when I heard a slight commotion in the side alley. I turned off the music and like the nosy little prick that I am, I walked in that direction. I know what you're probably thinking, is this girl stupid or what? Trust me, I am asking myself this question. But every muscle in my body craves drama and I could not turn a blind eye to it.
I walked in the direction of the sound, more like yelling and saw a group of boys in the midst of a fight. I fished out my phone and started recording it to show it later to Scar. She loved drama as much as I did. It looked like 5 guys were ganged up against one and were in a heated argument. Wait! One of them looks familiar. It is Ricky something. I saw him in news a few days back wanted for being a part of an illegal fight club or something. I don't clearly remember. What is he doing with such criminal looking guys? Suddenly, the blonde version of hulk picked Ricky by the collar and the other guy brought out a knife.
Shoot. I have to call 911. I was about to dial when a piercing shriek made me stop. The shorter guy slit Ricky's throat as the other guys circled them.
An audible gasp escaped my mouth as I saw blood seeping out like a fountain from his neck. All the necks, except Ricky's, turned towards me with fuming eyes.
"Who's there?" One of them called out. Yeah, as if I am going to call out, Hey, it's me. I was just recording you all kill a guy. No biggie. Pfft. Stupid. Yes yes Abby, great time to have smartass retorts when they have a knife and god knows what else.
"It is a chick. She saw everything. Get her!" The blonde hulk yelled as the realization seeped in. They saw me. They are coming towards me. Why the hell am I still standing here, rooted to my spot?
Run bitch run.
I started sprinting as I heard all kind of profanities being yelled at me by the guys on my tail. Thank god, I worked out. Other I would have been a squirrel caught in headlights. I pushed all the energy I had in me and ran. I ran like my life depended on it. Well, quite frankly Abby, your life is dependent on it. So run!
I ran like a mad woman and for the first time in a while, I didn't do anything as stupid as looking back while running. Because we all know how it ends up turning out. I ran and turned into a busy street. They won't murder me here, would they? I mixed up in the sea of people and for once I was extremely grateful for my small stature. After walking for a while, I checked behind me and those guys were nowhere to be seen. I took a sigh of relief and I calmed my panting heart. That was a close one. I could have become Abigail was from Abigail is.
I walked the remaining distance home in total awareness checking the time and again if anyone was following me. After being completely assured, I unlocked my home and went inside. I double checked all the locks twice before sitting down on my bed. And that's when the waterworks began.

"Sunshine. Wake up!" I heard a sweet voice trying to wake me up. I opened one eye and saw my dad sitting on my bed gently massaging my hair.
"5 more minutes please," I grumbled as I turned to face the other way.
"No! Dinner's ready. Freshen up and come down."
"What's for dinner?" I asked as I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
"Mashed potatoes. Have you been crying?" My dad scrutinized me as I tensed up.
"No no! I am just very exhausted. That's all. I'll join you guys in a bit. I need to change." I said and rushed to my bathroom. I had a small cardiac arrest when I saw my reflection in the mirror. Damn, they can cast me as the ghost in the next movie in exorcist series. My eyes were bloodshot and my lips were puffy. I washed my face, trying to remove all the remnants of the evening's events.
I changed into fresh clothes and joined my parents for dinner.
"How was school, honey?" My mom asked as she kissed me on the head.
"It wuas fwine." I replied with a mouthful of mashed potatoes as my parents chuckled. No wait, more like laughed at me.
"The Oompa Loompa spoke." My dad teased as I stuck a tongue out to him as did he. I shook my head and mom told us about her new case and what a wreck the witness guy is. We talked for a while before calling it a night. I got back to my room and was scrolling through my phone when I remembered the video I took. I opened the video and saw it all happening again. The faces of 3 guys were quite visible but 3 remained hidden due to lack of lighting in the area.
I know I can tell my parents about it but I don't want to stress them out. They already worry about me way too much. I know this is a stupid decision but as selfish as it sounds, I cannot get involved in this. I transferred the video to my laptop and deleted it from my phone. Just in case I need it later. With that, I put my phone down and went to sleep hoping for a dreamless night.
