Chapter 7: I don't want to fall in love, cupcake, but...I think I already have."

_____________

My parents are out of town again. I'm not surprised. They're always out of town.

It's six thirty at night and Haley hasn't come out of her room once.

"Hal?" I yell at the bottom of the stairs. "It's time to eat."

"I'm not hungry!" she yells.

I frown and go upstairs and knock on her door.

"Go away Allison."

She's using my full name. Something definitely happened.

I walk right in.

Tissues cover the floor. She's lying under the covers, crying into her pillow.

"Haley?" I sit down next to her. "What happened honey?"

"I missed the bus so I walked home." She sniffs. "I forgot my phone so I couldn't call mom. Two girls started making fun of me, calling me a stupid kid, a middle school loser, a whore, a bitch, a slut, a cunt. You name it, they said it. They've done it before."

"They're bullying you?" I ask.

"Yes."

"Do you know who they are? What school they go to or-"

"They're twins. They're freshmen at your school. Kalie and Hallie Nole."

"Don't worry honey; they won't mess with you anymore. Come eat. Don't let them get to you."

_______________

Mel and Gwen are sitting at our lunch table, along with the entire football team. Matt is flirting with Gwen and Trace is flirting with Mel.

"Ali," Drake begins.

"I can't talk right now." I say. I've been avoiding him since I heard him admit his feelings for me. I wear a baggy tan knitted sweater, short shorts that are dark denim with shreds, and black converse. My hair is down, but I'm getting into a fight today, so I tie it up. I know they have my lunch.

"What's wrong, Ali?" Mel asks.

I'm looking around, and the tardy bell rings just as Kalie and Hallie Nole walk in.

"Ali." Drake says. I go storming over to them when they sit down. When seniors go up to Freshmen at our school, it means fight.

"My parents are out of town." I snap at them. "My little sister wouldn't come out of her room last night. Why? Because you two assholes are bullying her."

Everyone is silent, watching.

"Wait...Haley is your sister?" Hallie asks, and her eyes flicker to Drake.

"Yeah, she is."

Drake Parker is rubbing off of me. I punch Hallie in the jaw, and Kalie hits me.

"Don't hit my sister!" Kalie says.

"Then leave mine alone!" I lunge across the table and knock both of them to the ground and we fight. I manage to take both of them down, and win the fight. They're both cowering away from me. "Leave my baby sister alone or I make it much worse next time!" I yell, and then I turn around, and I go and sit back down at my table without a scratch on me.

Both girls go running from the lunch room, crying.

Everyone is shocked, silent. My bag is a big tannish red purse.

About three minutes later, the intercom clicks on. "Allison James, please come to the principal's office."

I roll my eyes and stand up. I grab my bag and go stalking out of the cafeteria without a glance over my shoulder.
