"And done." I say after typing the last sentence of my latest interview. This one, with the schools head cheerleader, Courtney, took longer than usual, as the cheerleading team only just got back from their first competition of the year. Jared and I were in the schools Mac room; me closing up on my computer and him spinning around on the spinney chair. How mature of him.
"Finally," Jared exclaims, throwing his hands up in the air dramatically once he realises that I’ve finished, and bringing his chair to a stand-still. "That took forever." He continued, standing up and brushing his thick hair back.
I casted my eyes over at him and gave him an annoyed look. "You know you could have gone home you know." Idiot.
He sighed. "I couldn't, you're my ride."
"Oh yeah." I say chuckling. “You know, you should really get yourself your own car.” The computer needed rebooting, well that’s what the little white message box told me anyway, so I clicked what it told me to. I internally laughed at the fact that Jared would get really annoyed if he knew we would be spending at least ten more minutes here.
"Yeah? With what money?" He scoffed, running a hand through his gelled-up hair. No money? Yeah right. The guy was loaded with it. His parents supplied the money to pay for the room we were in right now.
I turn back to computer and click a few more things, before turning it off completely, standing up once I’d finished. Looking over at the seat where Jaden was previously sitting, I saw he’d moved. He was leaning against the doorway, one leg placed comfortably in front of the other.
I make my way over to him. "Come on, let’s go."
He stands up straight and walks out of the newspaper room, leading the way. I follow him out the door and into the hallway, turning off the light and locking it behind me. Once we were in the hallway I hear Courtney calling my name.
"Kaden!" To my right was her and a couple of the other cheerleaders- walking towards me in workout clothes. They must’ve had practice today. They were sweaty and their tops had become see-through. Jared noticeably changed his posture when he saw them. I rolled my eyes at him. Typical heterosexual boy.
"Hey Courtney." I say when she’s standing in front of me. Her dark brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, some of it falling out in small wisps. “What is it?” Her friends, smile and Jared and I, some of them even going the length to give us a wink. This is what I hated about Courtney’s group of friends. I mean, Courtney was great and nice and all, but that was only because she didn’t hit on me every chance she got. But her friends did. No matter how many times I told them I wasn’t interested.
"Hey Kaden, is the interview going to be in this week’s paper?" She asks, shifting her hold on her sports bag.
I shrug, not really knowing. "It probably will, I just have to check it over tomorrow morning."
She nods, smiling. "Great! See you in history tomorrow!" Courtney tells me, before walking away with the rest of the girls. Every conversation with her was short and to the point. We were friends in passing so-to-speak. We would say hello and goodbye when we saw each other, but didn’t stay to talk about things that didn’t matter. That’s what I liked about her.
