Absence

Chapter 12.

A week later

It's 7p.m on a Saturday evening, Amy had been lounging on her couch alone in her pajamas all day, Shadow told her he needed to go out today to visit an old friend of his. Amy hadn't questioned him because she didn't think much of it at first, but he has been gone all day with out contacting her and she's beginning to overthink about his absence.

"Where is he" Amy thought anxiously, she had been doing nothing all day but lounging and binge watching Cake Boss, she felt lazy and disgusting. Her hair was slicked back into a messy bun, her figure was hidden by her baggy blue shirt and checkered white and blue pants.

Amy hopped up and started to pace back and forth "I shouldn't be so worried, but we haven't even been together that long, what if he's lost interest in me? What if it was all just a game to him? What if he'll break my heart, just like Sonic did.." she bit down hard on one of her nails breaking it unintentionally.

As Amy paced, a knock at the door snapped her out of it. She rushed to the door thinking her love had finally returned. She reached for the handle and opened the door to face none other that the blueberry devil himself.

"Hiya Ames" Sonic said with a smile, Amy looked visibly disappointed, it wasn't Shadow, so what's the point. She closed the door on his face.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

Sonic knocked on the door "What gives!!!" He shouted with concern. Amy sighed and opened the door again "I'm sorry" she apologized "I just do not feel like myself right now, I'm overthinking and I thought you were somebody else." Sonic gave a sympathetic look and pulled her in for a hug, Amy didn't hug back. "Is it to do with Shadow being out with Maria?" Sonic questioned Amy while he pat her on the head, Amy's eyes wided "What?" She said immediately, her heart sinking, her mind was now racing a million miles a second. "Who's Maria?" Amy said, her voice cracking. "...and why didn't he tell me about her first" she thought to herself while hot tears started to roll down her face. Amy felt Sonic cup her face with his hand, he pulled her face up to him "It's someone Shadow used to have strong feelings for.." Sonic said with a frown, he didn't want to hurt Amy but he knew that she was gravely upset.

Selfishly but truthfully, in that moment, Sonic wanted to kiss Amy, but he held back. Amy moved away from Sonics touch it didn't feel right, all she wanted was for Shadow to come home, she missed his warm embrace and his soft chest fur.

"I'm sorry Sonic but I think you should leave, Shadow wouldn't take kindly to you being here alone with me." Amy said quietly. Sonic nodded "If that's what you really want Ames..." he gave a half smile and went to leave. As he reached the sidewalk Amy ended up calling out to him "Hey Sonic, why did you come here anyways?" He turned to look at her with heartfelt eyes "In all honesty Ames, I really just missed you so I came to see you." Amy felt a pang in her heart, after all he is the boy she used to love so deeply. "Tell Sally I say hi for me.." she said slowly closing the door.

Sonic looked at Amy's door as it closed, the red door burning into his eyes like her old dress. He thought back to what he had done to Amy and how he made her feel, guilt took over him as he started to walk away.

"Amy is right" Sonic though "I have Sally now, I need to be there for her-" his thoughts we cut off abruptly when he bumped into to Shadow. The two looked at each other confused.

"What are you doing here?" Shadow looked from Sonic to Amy's house then back to Sonic. The blue hedgehog did not look impressed "Your girlfriend is in her house overthinking, and you've been out all day, what do you think I was doing." Sonic said with getting angry, "You better not be saying what I think you're insisting" Shadow snapped back, getting in his face.

Sonic and Shadow were now arguing outside about Amy. Meanwhile Amy was laying under a fuzzy grey blanket, they were making a life sized cake model of Shrek on TV when she heard yelling outside. She paused the show not wanting to miss a single detail.

Amy threw the blanket off of herself and walked over to the door then turned on her porch light to reveal Shadow, but more importantly, Shadow and Sonic fighting outside of her house. Amy was fed up with them fighting and she had many questions for Shadow.

Amy flung open her front door and just as she did Shadow and Sonic started throwing punches at one another. The boys didn't seem to notice Amy walking up to them, once she reached however, she started to yell.

"THATS ENOUGH, SONIC YOU NEED TO GO, LEAVE NOW. SHADOW YOU HAVE SOME EXPLAINING TO DO"

Both Shadow and Sonic stopped their fighting and looked at Amy "Ames I-" Sonic started but was cut off by Shadow "No Rose, YOU have some explaining to do" he said visibly angry. Amy looked at him in disbelief "Me!? What about you? Sneaking off to go see Maria without telling me anything about it or at least letting me know you were okay throughout the day! I was worried sick!" She snapped back at Shadow. "THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SLEEP WITH SONIC" Shadow screamed back at her enraged. Amy looked at Shadow in the eyes "I didn't sleep with Sonic, what the hell are you talking about?" She said in utter shock "Then why is he insisting you two did?" Shadow said firmly.

Sonic looked at the pair, it was obvious he had said all the wrong things to Shadow "Shadow, I was here to check on Amy....nothing happened. I care for her but I know she loves you" Sonic said touching Shadows shoulder.

Amy and Shadow both looked at Sonic, there was a pang in Amy's heart once again, and there was one in Shadows too, he had raised his voice at Amy and made her clearly upset. Shadow turned to look into her beautiful jade eyes that he loved so dearly "Amy...my Rose, I'm sorry for raising my voice at you, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions or doubted you. I'm sorry for fighting with Sonic, and as for Maria, well...we can talk about that inside." He cupped her face with both of his hands as she looked up at him "It's okay, apology accepted" Amy smiled a little bit. Sonic smiled too, he then cleared his throat "well I guess I'll be going you two, I'm sorry for the trouble. Amy I hope you're okay, I'm always here remember that" and without another word, Sonic ran off.
