The Insanity of Place and Reality of Time
~~~"Hello?" A tentative knock at the door echoed through the empty room, making him jump ever so slightly every time the voice hit his ears. After two months insensitivity starts to deteriorate when you become paranoid about everything around you.
The bed he was sitting on had little more than a sheet and some pillows. The room, like the bed, was also quite scarce. The enclosed walls and door were the only things that qualified it as a room. The digital clock to his left read 6:52 AM, meaning the sun was to rise soon. Yet the room continued to be drenched in darkness with just a hint of dawn's light glowing through the locked window.
He might as well have had night vision because his eyes had adjusted very well to the darkness during the night. However, he was bored out of his mind. Bored and extremely tired. But he was too anxious to ameliorate the latter.
"Hello?" The voice called a second time, then dared to call his name: "Gar?"
He didn't dare answer. He was far too afraid to.
Gar's eyes were in a staring contest with the shellacked wooden floor. Desperately trying not to defer to looking at the door that so perilously beckons him, the person hidden behind it only adding to that pressure. He knows it can only be two people, both of which he does not want to see.
"I'm coming in." The voice said impatiently. The door started to unlock slowly. At least it felt slow. Everything felt slow to him now.
The door started to open and he gripped the bed like it was his life preserver in the middle of the Pacific. He heard them enter the room and he didn't move a single muscle.
"Gar?"
He couldn't help himself. He looked up and turned his head towards the door. Domino stood within it wearing extremely comfortable looking clothes. She wore a thick, two-sizes-too-big sweater and some shorts, making it look like she wasn't wearing any because the sweater was so big, and her hair was pulled back out of her face into a high ponytail. She had an uncanny confidence about her. The way she walked, the way she even looked at him, all of her emitted an abnormal aura of poise and tenacity. It's replaced her more commonly known aura of obedience and servitude even despite her current obligations.
Her eyes were gentle as they landed on him, "Why are you up so early?"
"I could ask you the same thing." He replied without moving his head an inch.
"I always have to be awake to keep track of you on weekend nights. You know that." She took a step forward and Gar reacted immediately, lowering his left foot to be ready to hit the ground and grab the sharpest thing possible in less than a second. "How are you feeling?" She asked kindly.
"Like you care."
"I promise you that I do."
"Then why don't you bring me home?"
She shook her head to him, "Hey, this is your fault."
"No, it's not! Let me see Raven again!" He demanded.
Domino sighed looking slightly disappointed and mumbled to herself: "There's nothing I can do anyway."
She then went closer to the bed and Gar's reflexes overtook him. Jumping up from the bed, Gar snatched up the sharpest thing closest to him, which unfortunately was a butter knife from the breakfast he was forced to have the day before because he was still too thin.
