A Little Plastic Ball
~~~"Uh, Kai?"
"Yeah?"
"What are you doing?"
"Just gimme a little peck on the cheek."
"What?? Again?? No! If anyone saw me do that it would undoubtedly get back to Gar and he'd wring me dry."
"Nobody's seen it yet."
"It doesn't matter!"
"What if I kiss you on the cheek then?"
"Then he'd wring you dry. Again."
"Well, the point is to piss him off, so whatever works." He replies with a flippant shrug.
"Kai!"
Things like this have been happening for the last week with Raven stuck in the middle of Kai and Gar's feud. Figuratively and, in some cases, literally. Her being the one to hold them back from one another. Kai tries to do things that piss Gar off and vice versa. The more time the two spend together the more they learn about each other. Including new ways to torment each other. Kai will say things about and insult his gaming, his looks, and sometimes even his relationship with Raven. On the other hand, Gar will do something similar, except he insults Kai's music turning into a second, somehow more immature Jay.
The real problem, however, is not their words, but their actions. Gar will pull Raven away from Kai very obviously but not say anything about it, he always holds her hand when he's around, and Kai noticed that they would kiss more often when he is around rather than when Gar thinks he's not. In response, Kai eggs him on in the jealousy department. Like what he did just now, Kai will occasionally peck Raven's cheek with a kiss when "nobody is looking" or hug her or whenever he has to lead her somewhere he leads her by the hand instead of by the wrist or the arm.
Kai laughs aloud, "You're blushing again, Rae."
"Do you have to point it out...?" she says with a pout, pulling the collar of her t-shirt over her nose. "And don't call me that at school. I keep telling you that."
Despite her best efforts, the shirt falls right back into place.
That's another thing. Out of all the things he's willing to do in order to aggravate Gar, that's one he won't do. He has a strong feeling that calling her that nickname in front of Gar would be some kind of death sentence. Mainly because it could completely out both of them. It almost did last week with everyone else. The bell was the only thing saving them at that point.
"It's fine as long as nobody hears. Nobody else is even here."
Raven groans and then sighs.
"What's wrong?"
"You know I'm gonna have to tell him what happened right?"
"What happened with Michael?" he asks in denial.
"Yeah, and what happened...between us..."
"Rae, I just want to piss him off. Not give him a reason to commit homicide."
"If he hears it from anyone else he's gonna think I...cheated...on purpose. Not only that, but it'll prove his whole 'replacement' claim too."
