Chapter 2

I was running on only an hour of sleep. I was exhausted but this was something I needed to do. I called back Jane, the woman who told me the news to get more information on my baby. Turns out I now have a baby girl. I prayed with every being in my body she looked like her mother.

“Flight 2-86 to Bradford now boarding” the airport announced.

I jumped up and quickly seated myself. I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited for the flight to start. I need to be with my baby girl. I wanted to hold her in my arms and tell her daddy was here. Jane also told me that Lily was in a car accident on her way to the hospital. She was driving herself.

I couldn’t see why Lily wouldn’t tell me. I would have been there for her no matter what. If I had been there I could have driven her to the hospital saving her from this tragedy.

My thoughts crowed my mind so much I didn’t even realize I feel asleep.

I was aware that I was dreaming but it still felt real. it was dark outside and the road was hard to see due to the rain. I looked to my right and saw Lily, my beautiful Lily. she looked different, a swollen, protruding stomach sticking out of her. it took me a few seconds to figure it out before I realized  that was my baby. My baby girl was on the way, the pain on Lily's face made that certain. her face was stricken with pain. I was holding her hand and saying reassuring words but all I heard was "Zayn it hurts"

"I know baby" I whispered.

I was so focused on her face that I didn't see the car coming in my lane. I swiveled trying to avoid the on coming car. time seemed to slow down as I watched the car come towards me. I put my hand in front of Lily, hoping to protect and the baby.

Next thing I knew, I saw the car. It was flipped over and Lily, slumped over in the passenger seat. I looked down at myself, I didn’t have scratch on me. What the hell happened?

I ran towards the car and saw that Lily had a huge gash on her head. I desperately tried to pull her out, adrenaline coursed through my blood. I could feel my blood pressure starting to rise, my blood starting to boil.

"Please Lily, please stay with me. I need you." I whispered to Lily as I continually tried to pull her out of the car. I heard the sirens in the background, blaring, letting everyone know that something was wrong.

I couldn’t get her out, so I tried to yank open the door. I need to save her, I need to save my baby. Red lights appeared behind me, the paramedics were here. I backed away and started to explain what happened.

"I was driving...car...didn’t see....crash...flipped..." I couldn’t control my tears, they ran down my face as I tried to explain what happened. The policemen gave me a sympathetic nod, occasionally writing down what I was saying.

I turned around and saw some firemen with tools, trying to pull apart the car door. I started to get jittery, time was ticking and Lily was still in the car, along with my unborn baby.

Thankfully, the firemen finally pulled apart the door and went to work. They carefully pulled out Lily, making sure her head was kept up and her back was straight. I ran towards her but some policemen held me back.

Lily had blood gushing out of her wound and she was clutching her stomach. The paramedics put her on the stretcher and rushed her to the ambulance. They put her inside, shut the door, drove off.

"I need to be with her. I need to be with her." I started to pace and the police officer offered me a ride in his police car. I eagerly accepted and hopped into the car. The sirens were turned on and we were It took ten minutes to get to the ER, every minute more gut wrenching then the next. As soon as the police officer stopped the car, the opened the door and ran inside. I made a beeline to a lady at the front desk, out of breathe.

"Lily...car....baby..."

"I'm sorry sir, I don’t understand what you're saying. Please repeat that again." This time, I caught my breathe and repeated everything I said in the calmest manner possible.

"I'm here for Lily Brooks She was in a car accident, she's pregnant and she was just brought in through the ER."

"I'm sorry sir, Lily is still in surgery, she just got in five minutes ago. You'll have to wait till she's out of surgery. Feel free to wait in our waiting room." I ran my fingers through my hair, frustrated that no one knew of Lily's or my unborn child's condition. I cant loose either of them, they were my life.

I started to pace for about five minutes and then I decided to sit down. Before I knew it, I was asleep.

off.

"Zayn Malik...." I woke up at the sound of my name. My vision was a bit blurred but it cleared up after a few seconds.

I saw a doctor standing in front of me, coat covered in blood, with two blood covered gloves and a blue mask in his hands. Despite the heart wrenching image I saw, the doctor has a small smile on his face.

"Lily had a large head laceration and she is currently unconscious but we were able to save both Lily and the baby. You may go see them now." I let out a sigh of relief. A small smile spread across my face and I jumped out of my seat. I hugged the doctor, extremely thankful that he was able to save Lily and the baby.

"Thank you, thank you so much!" I said to the doctor. He gave me a smile and nodded. He told me which room she was in and I ran down the hallway till I reached the door. I stopped and knocked on the door, I didn’t get a reply and assumed that she sedated. I slowly opened the door and saw her laying there.

Feelings of sadness and relief spread throughout my body. Sadness to see her unconscious but relief to see her alive. The only sound emitted from the heart monitor, beeping every few seconds.

I stood next to her bed and pulled up a chair. I sat down and looked at Lily, despite the large bandage on her forehead, she still looked beautiful. I stroked her face, pushing a few strands of hair out of her face. A sob was caught in my throat.

The feeling of anxiousness from the car crash came back to me. All the feelings from today came flooding back to me. It was just too overwhelming for me. I held onto Lily's hand and fell asleep next to her, only hearing the heart monitor.

I woke with a start as the intercom said we were about to land. I put on my seat belt. My foot began to tap impatiently on the ground again. It sucked to be back in reality. all I want is Lily to be alive right now. if I had been there for her maybe she would be. I felt a pain in my chest as I began to blame myself. Lily is gone from this world but the baby isn't. maybe she'll forgive me if I take good care of our daughter. I was hoping making a deal with Lily would take away this heaviness in my heart but it didn't work.

I rushed out of the airport with my beautiful baby girl on my mind. my heart began to race as I got closer to the cabs. I looked around hoping one was empty when I saw her.

"Mom?" I asked.

she ran towards me and hugged me tight. I loved my mothers hugs. they always made me feel so much better. this is something I will never get to old for.

"Oh, Honey, I’m so sorry." she mumbled against my shoulder.

I was confused how did she find out? how much did she know? did she know about Lily and the baby or just Lily?

"What are you doing here, Mom?" I asked.

she pulled away, placing her small hands on the side of my face. I didn't like the look in her eyes. she was concerned but there was a hint of disappointment.

"Lily's family called, but they won't let any of us in the hospital until you came" she said.

she looked confused. maybe she didn't know about the baby. a part of me wanted her to know so she can tell me everything was going to be alright and I was going to make an amazing dad.

"Why won't they let you in the hospital?" I asked.

she released her hands from my face only to place them in mine as we began to walk out of the airport.
