The Theaters of Andropoli and the Panopticon. - A program of the capital's shows on April 26th of the year 3000. - A gala evening at the Panopticon.

The city of Andropoli contains more than fifty large theaters, where very different shows are given for eyes and ears; for the pleasure of imagination and the heart.

They are almost all owned by speculators or industrial companies and there are also private individuals, who belong to wealthy gentlemen, who spend them for their amusement and that of their friends, and where the amateurs of music or dramatic art entertain, acting as actors and spectators at the same time.

The only Panopticon , the largest and richest of the theaters of Andropoli, is the property of the State, which seeks in the shows that are given to it, to educate the people to beauty and sweet emotions; bringing together all the most ingenious findings of science and art.

All the theaters of the great cosmic capital are covered only in the cold season, and then the most perfect ventilation accords with the appropriate heating.

In all there are places more or less comfortable and of different price, but in the upper amphitheater, where in the past the lobby was located, there is a large space reserved for the poor, who have entered it free by turn or as a reward for good shares, or in payment for services rendered.

In theaters of the year 3000, two metal buttons are seen every two places, where the authors can be applauded or disapproved by finger or foot, without breaking their hands or whistling.

Pressing on the button of the applause, a voice comes out, that in cosmic language corresponds to our Bravo , and pressing on the other a long hiss is heard, like who invites another to the silence.

The shows are diurnal and nocturnal, but much more often they are given by day, because the inhabitants of the year 3000 have long found, that watching many hours of the night is very harmful to health and shortens life. They all go to bed very early and always get up in the sun.

For several centuries, night work in the workshops had been completely ignored, and the workers never worked more than six hours a day, having perfected all the mechanical arts and having the machines largely replaced manual labor.

The XXXI century shows are much more varied than those known in ancient times, and they are enough to persuade you of the one-day program, which I find in an Andropoli newspaper:
