1. The Snow Ball

~ WILL'S POINT OF VIEW ~

I'm in the car with my mom. She's dropping me to the Snow Ball, but before, she wants me to listen to all her advices. So I'm just sitting there and waiting for her to finish.

- And, just have fun. And try to dance with a girl! s,he add with a little smile.

But she doesn't know I prefer boys to girls. She doesn't know the only person I wanna dance with is Mike.

Nobody knows it.

I get out the car and walk into the Snow Ball. I hope Mike is already here. I see Nancy and Jonathan. I look at the gym and I search Mike. Oh, there he is! He's alone. Let's go see him now!

I go see him and I take a decision at the same time. Tonight is the night. I'll tell Mike I love him. I'll tell him. Tonight. I promise.

I put a smile on my face and say:

 - Hi Mike!
 - Hi Will.
 - Are you okay? You seem sad.
 - Well, I thought Eleven would be here  tonight, but apparently, she's not.
 - Oh... I'm sorry.

When he said that, my heart broke in two. But maybe if that Eleven I dont even know (I was in the Upside Down when the guys met her, and when I came back, she was gone) doesn't come, I'll have a chance to dance with Mike, even if it's just because he doesn't have anybody else.

 - Huuuuuh, I say, you're pretty tonight, Mike.
 - Uh, thanks, he say, obviously thinking about others things, probably Eleven.

We stay there, standing one besides the other, without talking, me looking at him desperately, and him looking at the ground, thinking.

When he sees that I'm looking at him in a very intense way, he add:

 - Uh, you too.

Then it's just silence between us. It lets me the time to think about what I'll tell him. I set the sentence in my head. I'll just say that I'm gay, I love him, and ask him to dance. It's not complicated...

Right?

- Uh, Mike?
- Hmm?
- Uh, well, I'm-
- Hello, gentlemen!

I turn around and see Lucas, who just arrived. He makes me lose my motivation. I will certainely not tell Mike I love him in front of Lucas! Oh, no. I won't.

- Heyyy, Lucas! says Mike.
- Hi, I say, sad.
- Why do you look so sad?
- Uh, he was about to talk to me when you came, says Mike.
- Oh, sorry, says Lucas. Go on, talk. What did you wanna say?
- Uh, nothing, I say.

We start talking and Dustin comes, then Max. But no sign of Eleven.

So we're just all there, talking, laughing, and having fun (Mike a little less, because Eleven isn't there), and we hear the song "Time after time" on the speakers.

Lucas, a bit awkwardly, asks Max to dance and she accepts. About five seconds after they're gone, a girl comes and asks me if I wanna dance. I hesitate, because it's with Mike I wanna dance, so I look at him, and he tells me to go dance with the girl, so I accept her invitation even if I don't wanna dance with her. We dance during all the song, but I can't stop looking at Mike. I smile to look like I'm happy to dance with her, but I'm not. It's a fake smile. I wanna dance with Mike.

The song ends, so we stop dancing. I look at Mike, he's sitting alone. I make a step to go talk to him, but the girl I danced with ask me where I'm going.

-Uh... Just the bathroom.
- Okay, be right back!

The song "Every breath you take" starts playing while I go see Mike. But then a girl enters in the gym. When Mike sees her, he stands up and goes see her. I realize that it's Eleven, and that now I have no chance to dance with Mike tonight. So I go back to see that girl that I don't even know the name and we start dancing again.

At the middle of the song, I see Max and Lucas kissing. Then, the heart already broke, already knowing what I'll see, I turn my eyes and see Mike, slowly going near Eleven, then kissing her. Then, I like, freeze. I stop dancing, I run to the bathroom and start crying. I'm alone, in the bathroom, during the famous Snow Ball everyone was looking forwards to, crying because I have no chance with the boy I love.

How pathetic I am.

When will I finally be happy?
