Saturday - 7:47 pm

"Night mom." I stand from the chair I had been sitting in and start to make my way out of the living room.

"Why are you going to bed?"

"Because I'm tired," I reply shortly.

Mom also stands and walks into the kitchen that connects to the living room.

"Goodnight then. Just remember that Kate's coming for dinner tomorrow."

"Who's Kate?" I ask.

"A friend of mine from school. I thought I told you this."

"Oh, yeah you did. Night."

I leave my mother and get into my room, falling asleep as soon as I lay down on my bed.

Sunday - 12:26 pm

I arise from my bed sleepily, having just woken up. I unplug my phone from its charger and I scroll through my Instagram feed, liking the memes that make me laugh. Five minutes later I hear a knock on my door before it opens. I look up to see my mom.

"Why aren't you dressed? Kate is coming in half an hour! Get ready."

"Don't worry, I'll get ready. I only just woke up anyway."

She closes the door before I finish speaking, and I sigh before I turn off my phone and start to look for clothes. I find a black oversized hoodie (that is coincidentally a Ruel-merch hoodie) that I put on top of a red sports bra. I slip on a pair of black leggings and white socks before I braid my hair. I don't feel like putting effort into what I look like today, which is pretty obvious.

I lay back on my bed and check the time on my phone: 12:58. I hear a knock on the door before my mom calls out to me.

"Isla, they're here." My mother calls up the stairs.

"I'm coming!" I yell back.

I race over to my mirror and check my appearance one last time. A few hairs stick up, but aside from that, I look fine. I race out my room and close my door behind me. I take a deep breath and walk to the top of the stairs. My mom opens the door and I get two steps down before the man and lady step aside slightly.

Oh god.

It's him.
