Chapter 15: Chresanto
Sirens.
Loud sirens.
I couldn't watch the paramedics take her away; it hurt too much.
I could care less about them taking Curtis. He wasn't even injured that bad. He just passed out when I punched the shit out of his jaw, but because he's famous, everything has to be overly dramatic, and they took him too.
"Sir, can you please tell me what happened?" The cop repeated himself for the millionth time.
"Does it look like I wanna fucking talk right now man?" I asked not even turning to face him. I was angry at myself. I told her to run not even realizing that she was in no condition for it. I'm the reason she's on her way to the hospital right now.
The cop sighed. “This isn’t a matter of whether you want to talk right now or not. We have two people on their way to the hospital, so you have no choice but to speak up. If not, I can easily turn this into an arrest.”
I chuckled a sarcastic chuckle. I bet this fella thinks I’m behind all of this. I’ll take credit for Curtis because I simply don’t give a fuck how he turns out, but I refuse to let this officer punish me for Phoenix. I never laid a hand on her and never will. I’m a man. If I have an issue with a woman, I talk it out; I don’t introduce her to my fist.
"Alright so it seems like you don’t want to speak, so I’ll have to take you in for questioning."
“You know what?” I asked. “Fine, let’s go. Anything to get that fool locked up.”
“Doesn’t seem like he did anything. When we arrived, you were on top of him. Be glad I didn’t pull out the handcuffs.”
"Handcuffs? See, this is the issue. You walk into a scene with no background knowledge of anything that could have possibly lead up to what you were seeing. So you assume you understand, and then the wrong person takes the fall.”
“I’m tired of hearing you talk,” the officer growled as he retrieved the handcuffs. “What’s your name sir?
“Chresanto August, in that fucking order.”
“Chresanto August, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
Greaaaaat, the famous Miranda Warning that everyone has memorized after watching too many Law&Order episodes.
So I did what he said. I shut up. It was clear I was dealing with one of Zone’s groupies.
“Take me in too since we arrestin’ victims,” came a voice from behind us. I had no power to turn my body because the officer gripped my shoulder and my wrists, but when he turned me around so we could leave, I came face to face with Ayana.
My eyes widened at the sight of her. Her face was a disaster of bruises, and although a part of me hurt for her, I was glad she came because now I had proof to back me up when I spilt the beans about Curtis. It was too obvious he did this to her. I was growing fed up at this point because he was getting away with all of this for too long, and tonight I wanted to put an end to this.
“And you are?” The officer asked.
“The reason this all happened,” she cried. Her eyes fell on me for a semi-second before she turned her attention to the cop. “I can explain everything if you give me a chance to.”
