Prologue

“Ranpo.. ” A familiar voice called out in the darkness, causing Ranpo to be slightly lucid. “Edogawa....”
‘Who...is that?’ Ranpo thought, feeling dizzy as he opened his eyes a bit.
“Edogawa Ranpo!”
Ranpo finally has a bit of clarity as he sat up, his emerald eyes looking around in the darkness only to fall in a pair of worried (e/c) eyes.
“(Y/n)-chan?” Ranpo muttered in shock, feeling slightly bewildered by what's happening before the memories came running back into his mind, causing his eyes to widen. “Are you alright?!”
“I am.” The girl stated calmly, placing a hand against Ranpo's forehead before sighing. “Your fever subsided. That's good.”
Looking around, she muttered. “We have to get out of here as soon as possible. We can't stay here any longer or else we'll be in a lot more trouble.”
She picked up a black glass ball that has a sapphire flame inside and gestures at Ranpo to stand up.
“Let's go. We're already on the last floor of this hellish place.”
Ranpo stared at the fire, mesmerized at the sapphire glow before his gaze moved towards the girl's eyes. No matter how beautiful the fire is, it couldn't compare to the light inside those (e/c) eyes.
Ranpo showed a hint of worry, “(Y/n)-chan...you're not fine. You're bleeding.”
“I am.” The girl stated through gritted teeth. Extending her hand towards Ranpo, the girl stared back at his emerald eyes with a reassuring gaze. “I will be. We'll get out of here alive, I promise.”
Ranpo glanced at the extended hand and took it without hesitation, “That's a promise, then.”
