Chapter 1: You're Under Suspicion
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

Leaning against the hood of yout car, you stared at the cloudy sky. The dark shade of the clouds hang above, the color an indication of the upcoming storm broadcast earlier this morning.

“How long do I have to wait?” You muttered, you [E/c] eyes glancing towards the anxious driver who's busy tinkering with the wheels of the car.

“Not too long, ma'am.” The driver anxiously smiled, trying to be reassuring. “The bullets hit quite hard, so I need to replace the wheels.”

‘Of course it does. It's bullets.’ You thought sarcastically, eyes scanning the tires the driver removed. You lament the sorry state of the wheel, rendered useless due to the holes littered in it.

“They're all getting desperate.” You commented with a sneer, “And stupid, too. They should've just placed a bomb directly in the car instead of wasting their money hiring assassins who can't even fire bullets properly.”

‘She's crazy.’ The driver thought to himself and he's sure everyone would agrees. After all, what kind of lunatic would suggest a better way to kill themselves?! The driver obviously thought that you should feel thankful that your enemies are 'stupid' for giving you a surprise ambush consisting of 'merely' a shower rain of bullets, instead of the bomb you wanted.

Unaware of your own driver's thoughts, you added. “Next time, they should just buy a whole lot of grenades and throw it at me so they could get done with their shenanigans.”

The driver laugh awkwardly, nodding and agreeing. However, inside his heart, he was complaining endlessly. How could he not? He experienced a near death situation, being under a gun-firing just a moment ago and his boss acted like this, criticizing her opponents and suggesting better ways her enemies could end her instead of feeling thankful she's still alive.

If you were to hear the thoughts of your driver, you would probably say ‘Who wants to be alive, anyway?’ and give reasons why living is such a tiresome thing. You're thankful that you have a job, or else you'll be at your house wondering about your future and how you don't know what to do with your life.

After a while, the driver finally finished fixing the tires and quickly, yet politely, ushered you inside so you could finally stop complaining to him again and again that you're running late.

What can you say? Patient is a virtue you do not have, after all.

“Ma'am, please...” The driver started after hearing how you complain that your boss will now scold you. He really don't understand how his boss could be such an overthinker while also being a successful person. “I'm sure your boss will understand if you explain it.”

“That's what everyone says.” You muttered begrudgingly, “And me being me, I'm stupid enough to believe it, feeling confident that everything will turn out fine only to get scolded so hard like I'm such an irresponsible person.”

Driver: .....

Alright. What did he expect? Normal appeasements don't work on abnormal people.

Sighing in defeat, the driver wordlessly sped up the car and drove past the speed limit without needing you to say it to him, disregarding the rules and regulations of driving.

Does he care deeply about the traffic and road rules? He does. Believe me, he's a firm believer of driving rules. He never even does an overtake unless necessary, or drive recklessly. He's a good driver who listens to rules.

But do you?

Glancing at the rear view mirror only to find you opening the window, excitedly wanting to feel the air hitting your face while the speed was pass the limit — as though you didn't just experienced being showered by bullets.

The driver sigh. Of course you don't care about the rules and regulations of the road.

‘It's really hard to be so greedy. I love money so much to give up my job.’ The driver thought before he overtakes all the cars in the front like a professional racer who wanted to win the first place.

“I shouldn't have come earlier.” — was the first line you stated the moment you arrived and learned what happened.

You're currently working for the Government under a contract . However, it's just a temporary contract because you planned to jump ship once you manage to find a more suitable work. (Which your coworkers especially your boss, don't know.)

You prided yourself for being well-deserving of a title 'Great Detective', having solved countless cases ranging from both normal and abnormal.

That title holds so many meanings. You plastered that title to yourself under the respect and admittance of defeat of other detectives working with you who couldn't catch up with your skills.

And yet, such a great detective was faced with a set of ridiculous words the moment she arrived.

“You're a suspect in this one.” said your boss, who emotionlessly handed you a case file report detailing the investigation and your involvement in the case.

“You've got to be kidding me. No, you must be totally insane.” You frowned and took the report, opening it and flipping the papers as you read carefully.

Your boss crossed his arms and sigh, “Right now, there's no proof you're involved so they can't really have you on detainment or seclusions. I managed to fight for your freedom for a moment but be careful, there might be people watching your moves around.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” You don't like those words. The implications that your boss somewhat believes you're really doing something was very obvious in his choice of words despite the flat tone.

“Fight for my freedom? Boss, as much as I don't like insulting people, I think you have a problem, right over here.” you said, pointing to your head before slamming the reports down on his table. “I'll receive a damn interrogation if needed to prove my innocence.  But what the hell, boss? I would never do such a thing as involving myself in illegal cases like this one!”

The case is about a Financial Fraud. But it wasn't as simple as that. It involved one of the leading criminal organizations in Yokahama: The Port Mafia.

Although the Financial Fraud was said to be the main case, due to lots of billionaires and politicians losing money complaining and filing cases while putting pressures on the police at the same time, making everyone anxious, there are actually various crimes that were more severe than Financial Fraud.

For example; Embezzlement, Drug Trafficking and Kidnapping cases are mixed into the report yet the one they're most concerned with is the Financial Fraud.

Why?

Because this Financial Fraud is also related to someone named Fritzgerald, who claimed that you're his accomplices.

What the fuck?

You furrowed your eyebrows, “Isn't this the lunatic who bathes himself with money?”
