"Isn't there an easier way?"
One look from the Fates said, no.
So, the three gods went back to Mount Olympus, and discussed the matter at hand. Which three boys should be sent? Was the main problem. After much discussion, they decided to send experienced, and recognized demigods.
"They'll know what they are doing and it only seems logical."
Many gods seemed skeptical about this. But, they all knew they could not just choose any demigod.
"Sounds good, also, we need young men that yearn for love." Aphrodite said dreamily.
"True." many gods agreed.
After much evaluating, and checking which demigods were in a relationship and the ones that were not. The gods decided on two of the three so far.
"We have decided on Frank Zhang, since he was one of the seven, and Nico, since he played a fairly large role in the defeat of Gaea. I think we shall work with these two and if both fail we will have one more choice."
And so, Hades was called forth and sent to retrieve his son and Ares became Mars and went to retrieve his son from his camp.
Ares was the first one back with Frank, who looked confused and disheveled. Zeus, explained, some-what, the situation. Frank nodded his head with no words or questions.
"Somehow i think he is not the one."
Posiden sighed, he just wanted to do a simple favor for his son.
A few days later Frank returned with no avail. And Ares escorted him back to his camp.
Right after, Hades returned with his son, Nico, who looked like he would rather be doing nothing, than be doing something. Again, Zeus, explained the situation some-what, leaving out the pressuring parts.
Nico shrugged and said, "Ok, i guess it will give me something to do." his voice broke in the middle of the sentence, and he tried clearing his throat with no prevail.
Hermes escorted Nico to Calypso's island. Nico's eyes widened, what a beautiful place, he thought.
"Calypso is even prettier." Hermes smiled at Nico and left. There was a moment of deafening silence. Until, a watering can was chucked at his head. Nico was caught totally of guard. And knocked out for a couple minutes. When he woke, he found himself tied to a tree, and he was gagged. He could hear someone coming, but he couldn't turn his head. Just then the most beautiful girl he had ever seen came into his view. Though she was hard to see through his shaggy black hair that fell into his eyes, he knew there was no doubt there wasn't even a child of Aphrodite that could compare. She had long golden brown hair, and a heart shaped face with hazel almond shaped eyes. And, set on her face were the most pink lips Nico ever saw. They looked like the little rose buds in the garden. Nico was speechless, not that it mattered, for he was gagged. Why was he looking at her this way? Girls never interested him, he rather be alone and keep to him self. But, she was not just a girl... she... she was so much more. Nico was at a loss for thoughts. Only then did he realize she was glaring at him.
Nico could tell she was trying to sound mean, but her voice quivvered, " I'm Calypso. And i just wanted to say I'm sick of boys! and I know why you are here! Just like that Frank guy, well, this time your not leaving, you are going to die by this tree and i never want to c your face again!"
She turned to leave, and Nico chuckled. This caught her by surprise, and she whipped around to face him. Nico, wanted his gag off, and he knew just how to do it. He pretended to talk, this made her curious, so she took off the gag. He started babbling incessantly.
Calypso, being sensitive and caring took pity. "Oh, I have made him crazy!" She felt terrible. How could she have done this? she released him from his ties and walked him over to her cave. She laid him down and started warming up some soup. Nico, watched her carefully, silently. The way she moved so graceful, she seemed to flutter like a butterfly and glide when she walked, like a goddess. Suddenly, she turned and looked at him. She promptly bursted into tears and slumped down to the ground, and seemed disappear among all her hair and white silk dress. Nico, rushed over to her side.
"Oh," she wailed," what have I become?"
"no, no, no..." said Nico gently, he pulled her hair away from her face and lifted her chin slowly. " You are heart broken. You cannot help it. You were right, I did come here like Frank did, you have a reason to be angry. But, I am here to help you." He looked deep into her eyes. "But know I know I am not just here to help you, for you have stolen my heart already."
Calypso's breath caught in her throat, her eyes widened, she was speechless. Nico waited for her answer, but it was so silent they could hear their hearts beating. All of the sudden a panicky feeling came over Calypso, her head was washed of all feelings of love, all she could think of was pain.
"I-I'm af-afraid... to... to..." the last word stayed in Calypso's head, it was slowly starting to loose its meaning. She turned her back on Nico, just as he was about to put his arm around her. He sighed, he was not about to give up. This was all new to him, love, and he was not about to let it go. Nico, opened his mouth to say something but her cries became louder and harder. So, Nico listened to all of her stories about heart break. Even though her back was to him, he could feel himself becoming closer to her. Her tears slowed and he could tell she was exhausted. So he gave her a shoulder to lean on, and she did not seem to noticed she had curled up onto Nico's lap and was resting her head on his chest. Even though reality started turning into a dream and everything was becoming fuzzy, one thing was clear, the boy she was leaning on radiated warmth and protection. She felt her heart beat slow, worries slowly drifted out of her mind, her eyes started to close, and the last thing she remembered was his strong arms around her and his steady heartbeat.
In the morning, Nico woke up to the smell of soup. But that wan't what he wanted, he could not place it but, he knew he wanted something, badly. Calypso walked towards him carefully, like she was walking on glass and she smiled weakly. Nico was so mesmerized by her beauty he didn't realize she was holding a bowl of soup for him. He took it without taking his eyes off of her.
"I'll be in the garden if you want to join me." she said as she walked away, into the sunshine.
Nico drank his soup as fast as he could and ran outside to Calypso. I probably shouldn't have eaten that so fast. he thought. He joined her just as she was watering the seeds she had planted.
"The watering can and I are pretty close." he commented. Calypso looked up shyly. Just then he burped. I knew i shouldn't have finished so quickly. he thought, embarrassed. But to his surprise she started giggling. Her laugh was contagious and soon enough, he was laughing too. While they were laughing, somehow the watering can knocked over and spilled all over Nico, making him look like he wet his pants.
"I told you we were close." they both started cracking up again.
They looked into each others eyes, only for a moment, but Nico thought he sensed something else in her eyes besides pain. Was it love?
