"Mother, I don't want to go to Facility." I swung my legs in the open space between the seat of the chair and the support bar.
"Oh, sweetheart," she laughed, "you have to. You never know, you may like it." She smiled as she kissed my forehead.
"C'mon Soldier, I'll drop you off on my way to work. Maybe you and I can go on one more adventure later. Sound like a plan?" Father said as he messed with my hair before kissing Mother goodbye. I nodded excitedly.
"Promise Father? You HAVE to promise!" He laughed and put his pinky up.
"I pinky promise." I wrapped my small pinky around his large one and then grabbed his hand as he and I walked to school. My stomach sank to my feet as the big, old styled, dusty and grey looking building looked back at me.
"Father, are you sure I can't stay home with Mother a few more days... or a lot more days until this facility thing isn't allowed anymore? It seems lame."
"Soldier, you need to get an education okay? Mother and I did and now it's your turn, You never know, you could get so smart, you could be smarter than The Watching one day."
"Okay. I still don't like this Facility idea though" I pouted. He walked with me to my assigned classroom for the year. I looked around the old room and saw this girl with different colored hair and was naturally drawn to her. I slowly let go of my father's hand and wandered towards her. The closer I got, the louder her sniffling got.
"Um... excuse me... are you okay? You seem sad." She looked up at me and her eyes were almost the same color as her hair and didn't have pupils like anyone else's did. Her face was tear stained and puffy.
"No, I miss my mommy."
"What about your father?"
"He had to go to work really early this morning so I didn't get to see him."
"Oh. What's your name?"
"Thalia Alessia Washington," she whispered all of the sudden, "but mommy said that even though I'm really smart, I have to be in here so call me Blu. It's easier."
"Isn't that a color or something?" My nose scrunched up as I ignored everything but the nickname.
"Yeah, you'll learn the rest later on." Suddenly, my face is against the tough fabric of the carpet. When I got up, a girl triumphantly smiled at me, chest puffed out and hands on her hips.
"You have cool hair" she pointed at Blu, "and you were just in my way and I needed you to move so I moved you. I'm very fast, that's why you fell."
"Wait a minute, prove you're really fast. I don't believe you! I bet you can't." I rose to my feet and puffed out my chest.
"I can and will! Watch me!" She did as told and zipped around the room several times in the matter of seconds.
"Woah..." Blu and I said in unison as new girl stood with us.
"You didn't even break a sweat kid. Nice job." A boy who looked older than any of us walked towards us.
"Aren't you a little too old to be here?" I asked.
"I should be in 2nd year but my Elder hated me and every year when Facility starts, she pushes me on a unsuspecting Elder in hopes not to deal with me. I'm Dread by the way."
"That's not your real name is it?" Blu quietly in a soft, shy voice.
"Nah not really I'm just an unfortunate turn of events to Elders and other adults."
"That's a lot of big talk coming from a should be 2nd year." The fast talking girl said.
"You know what kid, from now on I'm calling you Charge." Dread said. Charge mocked him and stuck out her tongue, causing all of us to laugh. Father called me over and I said my goodbye after telling him I already made some friends but not to tell mother yet. He pinky promised he wouldn't, reminded me he would be picking me up after facility and then left for work.
