Water.
It feels like I'm in water.
But, it's not warm, and it's not cold. It feels, empty.
Plop
The sound of a drop of water hitting a bigger mass of water invades my ears. But, if I'm in water, how can I breath? My eyebrows scrunch together in confusion and my eyes gently flutter open. Upon opening them, I was met with a void of darkness. My body felt weightless as I floated in this void. I blinked slowly as my mouth opened slightly, allowing small bubbles to escape and float up words. I wanted to follow, but my body wouldn't listen. It seemed to give off a soft glow that provided little light in this abyss of emptiness. Glancing down at myself, I find that I have no clothes. I felt like I would normally be embarrassed and uncomfortable with this but, I could care less at the moment. I looked around myself to find no end in sight. Just blackness. I sigh through my nose as I close my eyes and relax. How did I get here?
What happened to me? Where is here?" Alistair....."
My name echoed through the void. Whispy and gentle as it called to me. A woman's voice. I opened my eyes and tried to find the source of which called my name.
" Do not fret my child. All is well and you are safe. Do you remember how you got here? "
"No. I don't even know where here is." I whispered out.
The voice giggled softly as I felt my body be caressed gently by nothing.
" You are in the balance my child. A place where a decision is made only by you. You had attempted to take your life away and I chose to give you a second chance. If you accept, you'll need to complete the task given and face whatever may come your way. Once you finish this task, you'll be able to continue with your old life with a new outlook on things. If you refuse, death will greet you with welcoming arms."
I closed my eyes and began to think. A second chance? I guess I could. Though this attempt was successful apparently, I'm curious to see what I could be given.
"Am I the first who has been given a chance like this?"
" No."
"What is this task you speak of?"
" I cannot tell you my yet child. But, I can assure you it's something that will be helpful to you in more ways than one. "
"What if I die before I can complete this task?"
" You will start over till it's complete."
I kept silent as I thought once again. An unknown task with an unknown goal. So suspicious and dangerous and yet, a tug at my heart told me to do it. I don't know why but it felt like I had to.
" My child? "
" I'll do it." I say gently as I opened my eyes slightly.
No face was seen, not even a body. But I could tell that the voice was smiling.
" Are you sure? Once you agree, there's no going back till completed. "
" I'm sure. "
The void around me began to shake. I shut my eyes tightly as I waited for this to pass. As soon as it did, a light shone on my face, soft and warm. I opened my eyes to see a circle of light shining down on me, bigger than me by many times.
" Before you leave child, there are things that you must know. You will not remember any of this once you are in your new life. But, you will remember things from your old life. Not all at once but in small glances. And general knowledge will already be given to you from what you have learned from your old life, giving you a head start then most."
" Do you have any advice? "
" Just one that won't give anything away. Listen to your heart, not always your head."
"Thank you. Thank you so much for giving me this chance. I promise to do my best. " I said as tears formed in my eyes.
The smile was back and an invisible nod given.
"It's nothing my child unless you make it be. Now go. Reach out and grab your new future. And good luck. "
Doing as told, I reached my right hand out in an attempt to grab the light. Once my arm was fully stretched out in front of the circle of light, I closed my hand, grabbing it somehow. A current of water rushes past me, making it feel like how it does when you land backwards in water. It soon felt that I was being sucked into a current and was being dragged along to a forming whirlpool. I curled myself up into a ball holding the light protectively and close to my heart. I shut my eyes tightly as the light began to shine brighter and brighter. Once in the whirlpool, everything began to spin around me, as if I was now the center of this natural phenomenon. Sounds came to me. Laughing, yelling, singing, crying. Undistinguishable words. Colors. I could see them behind my eyelids. So vivid and bright. Reds. Lots of reds. Blue. Green. Yellow. White. All of it! I pried open my eyes to get a better look. I untucked my head from my chest and looked up. I snapped my eyes opened and gasped as I saw the most beautiful jade like color come in contact with my sight.
That's all it took.
The images that where playing stopped and shook around me as I heard a deafening rumble but I did not care. The eyes that I saw in front of me had my full attention. One by one, the images that once only circled around me came closer and became the whirlpool themselves. They forced my body to uncurl and whipped around me with an amazing warmth. My eyes closed as they went through my hair at a fast pace, their turning around me causes me to twirl. They bring my right hand up that held the light and I opened my eyes to see the images form a person, the same one who had those beautiful eyes. Once formed, their blond hair swayed in the void, their form naked like mine.
" Save Ash Lynx. "
The man's eyes snapped opened and his hand grabbed my outstretched one. Once intertwined, the light between our clasped hands out shone everything and engulfed us with it. Before my eyes closed for the last time, called out in my mind.
" I promise. I'll save him. I'll save Ash Lynx."
And with that, my whole world turned white, and, as said, I began a new life with a chance given.
