Summoner
She awoke an hour or so later in her chambers. She glanced around to see if there was anyone around, then stood and padded lightly over to the window.
"I'm a Summoner," she said quietly, to herself, "but can it really be true? Can I really be a Summoner?"
"It is indeed true," said a voice.
She whipped around to see who had spoken, but there was no one there. Her room was empty.
"Who's there?" she called, wary, "I demand to know your identity."
"It is I, Ventus," the voice replied.
"Ventus?" she questioned, astonished, "Where are you?"
"I am here Milady," Ventus answered, "I am within you."
"Within me?" Mira asked, "What do you mean?"
"You are my Summoner," Ventus said quietly, "I dwell within your body until such time as my assistance is required."
"You're very formal aren't you Ventus," Mira observed.
"There is no need to speak out loud Milady," Ventus' wording confirmed her fears, "Think what you want to say and I will hear it."
"Thank you," she thought with gratitude, "and Ventus, stop calling me Milady, it's annoying. I have a name, you know."
"Do you wish me to call you Mira?" Ventus sounded surprised.
"Yes," she thought strongly at him, "I hate the title Milady."
"Very well Mira," Ventus surrendered, "I will."
"Thank you," she thought to him.
At that moment hers pocket heated up and she took out the COMS.
"Mira here," she said.
"Lina reporting Milady," Lina said, "The elves have turned down our proposition and attempted to take us prisoner."
Mira grimaced. The elves had tried to take Aki and Lina prisoner. They were going to be hurting in the morning.
"You didn't do any permanent damage did you?" she asked Lina, "That would be very bad."
"Nothing permanent, Your Highness," Lina told her, "a few bruises and concussions is all. And one nasty broken bone, but nothing a good healer can't take care of."
"Good," Mira said, relieved, "Come back at once."
"Yes Milady," Lina said, "Lina out."
Mira leaned back in her chair and pinched the bridge of her nose between her forefinger and thumb. She had hoped it wouldn't come to this. She prayed that the humans would be more sensible and accept the peace offering that Draconia was giving them. Otherwise there was going to be a lot of unnecessary bloodshed.
The stone began to glow again. Mira answered and Leo's voice came over the link.
"Leo reporting in Milady," Mira gritted her teeth at his mode of address, "They refused."
"Come back to base," she said, " we have plans to make."
"At once, Milady," He told her, "Leo out."
Mira sighed. Sure she hadn't EXPECTED it to be easy, but she had hoped.
"Are you alright?" Ventus' comforting voice asked.
"I'm fine," Mira thought to him, "but things are going to be a lot more complicated from now on."
"Whatever happens Mira," Ventus told her, "You're never alone. I will be by your side, always."
