Chapter 4 The New Lesson
Mira awoke hours later, and realized she must have dozed off. The COMS on her desk was glowing, alerting that someone was trying to contact her. She picked ot up and activated it.
"Mira here," she said into the stone,"What's up?"
"Lina reporting in Milady,"came the reply,"We've arrived at the elven capital, Sarania, and are about to report to the palace."
"Good," Mira said,"Contact me again when they give their answer."
"Roger that Milady," Lina replied,"Lina out."
As she was about to put down the COMS it started to glow again. She answered, expecting it to be Leo reproting in, and was surprised to hear Aeon's voice come to her through the link.
"Milady, someone has requested a private audience with you," Aeon informed her,"Should I let him in?"
"Send him in," she said, wondering who it could be.
"Milady," came a voice from the door, and she looked up to see an elf standing in the doorway.
He was tall and thin, but his muscles were clearly defined under his pale skin. His hair was silvery, and his eyes were clear piercing blue. She stood to greet him.
"Hello," she said,"What business do you have with me?"
"I am called Ryuu, Milady," he said," and I have a test I need you to take."
Without warning she felt a sudden pressure on her chest. It was all she could do to breathe. She fell to her knees, lacking the strength to stand. She looked up at the elf with contempt, she had to get free of his enchantment. She struggled physically but it did no good. In her frustration she glared at him and through sheer force of will forced his enchantment off of her.
He fell back as his enchantment broke. He looked dizzy and disoriented for a moment, then he smiled. He straightened up and offered his hand to her. she glare at him suspiciously but took it.
"You pass," he said, as he pulled her to her feet," You have quite the raw talent, Milady."
"What do you mean?" she snapped at him,"Raw talent for what?"
"I apologize for my rudeness Milady," he said," but if I had warned you the test would have proved ineffective."
"What test?" She almost screamed,"You Attacked Me!"
"I was testing if you had any apptitude for magic, Milady," he said calmly,"and as I said you have a good deal of talent."
She stared at him in shock. Her. Able to use magic. It wasn't possible! There were only a handful of half-elves that could use magic in the world! The chances of her being one were a million to one!
But Ryuu seemed certain, and if an elf said so, it had to be true. It was a well known fact that elves couldn't lie.
"Milady," Ryuu said, inturrupting her train of thought,"I wish to instuct you in the use of magic, if you'll allow it."
"I...," she wasn't sure. Magic could be dangerous. However... Her people needed her. This was no time to be playing safe.
"I would be honored to have you teach me," she told Ryuu,"When do we start?"
"If possible I would like to start first thing in the morning," he answered,"We need to find out when your powers are strongest, and dawn is a good time to do that."
"Well then Teacher," Mira said,"Lets meet at the back training field an hour before dawn. Is that acceptable?"
"That would be fine," he replied,"Then until tomorrow, Milady." With a quick salute he left. As she sat down to await the report from Leo and Tomo, she thought about the new lessons the rising sun would bring.
"Well," she said to herself,"Things are about to get very interesting."
