"Geno, you're awake!" She suddenly burst, hugging him tightly. "Everyone thought you weren't going to make it after 3 months in a coma but.. I knew you were somewhere in there!"Geno's eyes widened. 'I was?'
--
Everything seemed like a dream to Geno. 'What happened to me?' Life hesitated. "Well, I wasn't there when it happened. However, when I heard you had been fatally injured, I rushed to the hospital immediately. The doctors told me you had a bullet shot right at your skull, and almost near your brain tissues. You barely survived--" She paused, sighing. "--But you were always in a long coma. They thought you wouldn't make it, almost pulling the plug. But a few hours before, a nurse who went to check on you saw that you moving. You were showing signs of life."Life hugged Geno tightly. "I was so worried about you! I'm just glad you're okay now." Geno smiled, hugging back. Although Life has been such an amazing guardian and friend to Geno, there was one person that wasn't there. 'Wheres Death?'
Her face suddenly twisted into a irritated look. "Oh.. You don't need to worry about that, now." Although it was more reasonable to believe Life, Geno was curious. 'But do you know where is he?' It seemed that Life was trying to ignore questions. Geno, quickly caught on when she didn't reply. He furrowed his eyes in concern. 'What's wrong?'
Life sighed. "I believe that Death.. May or may have left you for another person." This completely made Geno paralyzed from shock. Death, would actually leave Geno? 'Maybe because he thought I was dead?' Geno tried to grip onto the possibilities that Death really didn't love Geno. That Death moved on with his life. His knees were numb and his hands were cold to the touch. Life shook her head in disappointment. "No, my child. He really did leave you the week after when you were at the hospital. At that time, everyone had still believed you were in there.. somewhere."
This made Geno sick to the touch. Life took his hand gently and held it. "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly. "I'm sorry.. I shouldn't have answered. Geno shook his head, saying that he was fine. However, deep down he really wasn't. Geno wanted to cry, and breakdown right there and then.
Why? Why did he have to leave Geno so suddenly? Was he not good enough for Death? So many unanswered questions entered Geno's mind. And all he could resolve out of it is,'It must be my fault he left me.'
He felt Life's hand wiped the tears off his eyes. Has he been crying? Geno looked over to Life. He could see so many pain and emotions in her eyes. 'I'm sorry.' Geno leans in to hug Life. At least he has his best friend, if Life wasn't there he wouldn't have been able to make it.
---
Two days later, Geno was finally released form the hospital. The clothes he had were mysteriously changed to a white sweater and some shorts. 'Strange..' He thought to himself,'I never wore this before..' But it fitted him, so he had no complaints. Life made sure to give him her phone number, in case of emergencies. He stuffed the paper in his pocket, walking along the streets. He had planned this out. Geno still knew that they left the key hidden under the mat of their home. He can go in, and take his stuff and leave. Then, he would go to a hotel and figure what to do with his life.
The thought of Death pained Geno, as he felt tears brimming his eyes. He blinked them away, walking to the bus station. Maybe Geno just needed to talk to Death. Maybe Death misunderstood something, and that they could still be together. The desperate conclusions Geno had scrapped weren't pretty. 'Misunderstood my ass,' Geno sighed. There had to be a good reason why Death would just leave Geno. He was so mad at himself. Maybe Geno wasn't treating him right, or he felt relieved that Geno wouldn't make it. But that would be stupid, didn't Life told him that Death was well aware Geno was going to live?
He looked down at his outfit. And how did he even get injured? The last time he remembered when not being in a coma, he was fighting Stacy. 'That bitch deserved it,' Geno thought to himself. The strangest thing was the hospital didn't give him any debt, or bills to pay. They just escorted him out, without saying what happened. Even when Geno asked, they didn't seem to understand, or choose not to answer. As he got off the bus, he walked towards the small house down the neighborhood.
The neighbors Geno and Death knew were looking at him however suddenly looked away, as if not knowing him. Geno suddenly felt conscious of his surroundings. Usually they would wave, or say hello, but they just stared and whispered to one another. He continued on his way to the house, picking up the key and getting inside. As he got inside, he noticed it was extremely dark inside the house. The cold air hitting him in the face, and a presence making him feel like he wasn't wanted there.
"What are you doing in my home." Geno flinched. He looked to the sofa, to see a very angry looking Death. Geno never seen Death like this. His eyes literally felt like a cold empty void. His tone felt icey, tension and anger laced in it. His posture was stiff, unable to relax. "I asked what the hell are you doing in my home," He demanded.
'I--I was here to get my stuff.' Geno suddenly feared talking to Death, but a voice inside him was desperate to tell Death that he was sorry for anything he had done. "It's over by the door." Geno looked to his right, seeing a big suitcase and a few boxes laying lonely on the floor. He went to pick them all up. 'Death can I-'
"--And don't forget to close the door when you leave. I don't want to see you anymore, so don't ever come back again." This pushed Geno even more off the edge. He took all of his things, heading to the door, when an inner voice screamed out to just ask Death. 'I'm sorry if I ever hurt you in any way I just--"
"Leave." Death's voice was more irritated. "I'm warning you right now, Geno."
'I want to know why you hate me so much, I still love yo--' Suddenly, Geno's cheeks were bright blue, pain prickling through his nerves. Death had just slapped him. "I SAID LEAVE ALREADY," He yelled at Geno.
Tears brimmed his eyes, as he muttered an apology, taking his things and going. He told himself he wasn't going to cry in front of Death, but after a few houses down, small tears became bug ugly ones. He slipped, and hit the curb, scraping his knees. He didn't care if people were bystanders and watching. Geno was alone again, he thought. He sobbed nonstop, wiping his tears and snot on his sleeve until his eyes began to burn from wiping them so much.
He got up, feeling his knees numb and ache. Geno can feel his head was light, but his heart, absolutely broken. He got his stuff together, walking down the sidewalk. He needed to find something. After miles of walking, he reached the bart station. When Geno got there, he was extremely exhausted. He dug into his wallet for some change. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough coins for a dollar, so he had to look around the place for some change. It was indeed humiliating, but he was already a mess. His kneecaps that were scraped, had bled. He looked dazed, and his sleeves literally soaked. And let's not forget the blood on his chest. He didn't have any bandages he would usually wrap his chest in, so it began to bleed through his white sweater.
When Geno got his loose change out, he found a yellow phone box, opening it and inserting the change in. It was indeed old, but it still worked. He in the numbers, holding the telephone close. It rang a few times. Geno hoped it would pick up. The suddenly..
"Hello?"
Geno smiled, tears falling down once again.
'Life.. Please pick me up at the bart station..'{This version is edited uwu
