chapter 1

"Hi, Mum!" Yelled Jonny, entering the Goodman family home. It was Friday night and time for dinner.

"Jonny-boo! Come help me with the dinner will you?" Said Jackie in a fluster. Auntie Val and her daughter Iris were coming over for dinner.

"Pissface not here yet?"

"No, not yet." Said Jackie in dismay. She was nervous as to how tonight would plan out- she hadn't told Adam or Jonny about Auntie Val and her daughter Iris coming.

"Hi, Mum" Called Adam from the hallway.

"Move!" Barked Martin, pushing past Adam into the kitchen.

"Hello, Pissface!" Smirked Jonny, following his father into the kitchen.

"Pussface... what's going on?" Adam was confused at the neatness of the house- especially the two extra plates laid at the table.
"Wait... MUM!!!"

Adam ran into the kitchen knowing all too well that his mother had invited people around without telling him.

"Who's coming for dinner?"

"No idea," shrugged Jonny, "don't bother asking her either- she won't tell you."

"Ohh, Adam how are you?" Said Jackie kissing him on the cheek and avoiding his question.

"Mum...." DING DONG

"Ah, they're here!!!" Shrieked Jackie, "Please, just be nice!"

Jonny presented a wide smile on his face as he examined Adam's confusion.

"Hello, Val!"

"Ugh, Auntie Val..." muttered Adam as he listened to the commotion coming from the hallway.
"Oh thank you, Iris, they're beautiful! Martin. Vase please-  here's Jonny and Adam!"

"Hello..."
Iris looked at her mother for reassurance.
Although she was an adult, she felt awkward seeing the Goodman's after almost 11 years.

"Oh, you silly! Head into the living room with Jonny and Adam whilst Jackie and I catch up!" Said Val before heading into the kitchen with Jackie.

Sitting down on the couch, Iris thought of things to say. She couldn't remember much but according to her mother, she was the best of friends with Adam and Jonny growing up.

"So..." started Adam.

"How are you, Iris?" Asked Jonny.

"Uh, I'm good thanks!"

"Nice holiday?"

"Oh yes, thank you, lovely. Um, how are you?"

"Good, good." Replied Jonny, looking at Iris.

"Yes, I'm splendid thanks for the excluded conversation guys!" Said Adam sarcastically.
"I'm gonna see how long dinner will be."

Iris internally died as Adam left just her and Jonny alone in the living room. Please let this not be awkward...

She couldn't help but notice how attractive Jonny was which made it harder to relax.

"So what are you doing now Iris?" Asked Jonny.

"Um, I'm working in the bookshop around the corner right now- just as a part-time job. I'm taking a gap year before uni."

"Oh, what are planning on studying?"

"French and music."

"Oh yes! I can remember your singing!"

"Singing?!?"
