Chapter 8

It was finally Friday! I was so happy because that means Matts seventeenth birthday is tomorrow!

Each year I do something different for him on his birthday. Like, on his fifteenth birthday I took him to Disney World, then on his sixteenth birthday I took him out for a fancy dinner, but this year, I don't feel like doing anything like that. I just don'.t want to copy what we have already done.

We got school pretty early today so I decided to ask Lexie if she had any ideas of what I should do for Matts birthday.

"Umm, let me think." she said, "Maybe you could take him like on a picnic or something."

"No, I don't really want to do like a simple thing."

"Okay? Well, how 'bout a party."

"Okay, ok, like what kind of party?"

"Like maybe a few friends over at your place and we can like, I don't know, do just random things."

"Ehh, I just hate having my parents here watching our every move, do u think we could do it at your house."

"I'm ok, I'd rather not, just cause my moms the exact same way!"

*bell rings*

"Talk to you later, bye."

"See ya."

I walked off towards my first period class, math.

I walked in, while being greeted by Mrs. Dallas, and took my seat.

The late bell rang, and I looked around, around for Taylor, he wasn't there.

"Okay class, today for the next hour or so we will be working on our partner project assignment that was given out just barely. Get with your partner and get to work!"

I had to work alone, which I was glad for because then I would have to face Taylor if not.

I got to my house door and turned the handle to open it. I walked inside to my family sitting around the dining room table.

"Come sit down Tara." my mom suggested to me.

I walked over there and sat between Chance and my dad.

"What's going on?" I whispered over to Chance.

"I don't know.." he replied.

"Ok guys," my dad started, "me and your mom have a big announcement."

"Your PREGNANT?!" Shawn yelled.

Everyone laughed.

"No,no,no." my mom assured us.

"Ok." My mom began

"Me and you guys are all going on a 2 week long Cruise to the Caribbean!!!"

Everyone began to cheer and rejoice.

I added."when are we leaving?"

My dad answered "tommorrow morning so go upstairs and get packed!"

Chance and Shawn raced up stairs into their rooms to get packed. As for me...i wasnt to thrilled.

"What's wrong? Aren't you so excited?"My mom asked.

"I would be but..Matthews birthday is tommorow.."

"Oh ya, it is"

"Tara, its up to you. You can stay home if that's your desire. But also remeber that were your family and it would be a great opportunity to bond." my dad told me.

I ran up to my room and plopped on my bed to think.

I pretty much knew what I was gonna do but I really didn't want to break it to the rest of my family. But I had to.

I made my way back down my stairs into the kitchen where both of my parents were standing.

"Mom, dad, I have made my decision."

"Ok go on."

"I know this is a family thing and a great way to bond but I have to stay. Its his 17th birthday I couldn't stand to miss it. I'm sorry."

"Its ok Tara." My dad said

"Now we have to figure where u will stay for two weeks." My mom added.

"I'm sure I can stay with Lexie I will call her right now."

I ran back upstairs as I scrolled through my contacts on my phone until I reached Lexies contact.

"Hey Lex guess what?!"

"What?"

"I know what we're doing for Matts birthday."

"What?!"

"My family is going on a cruise and I have the house to myself,.. were having a party!😏"

"Yeah!"

"Also can I stay at your house until they get back?"

"Ya sure."

"K, got to go, see ya, talk to you later."

"K bye."
