Nightmares and Checkers

Y/N, May 13th
When you fall asleep, you have a nightmare.

Your mother and father are on a large boat. A storm comes up and rocks the ship back and forth, almost tipping it over. Rainwater and water coming over the sides begin to flood it. There are only so many emergency rafts, and your parents are too polite to get on first. Soon the boat is half under water, your parents are still waiting to see if there will be more rafts. The boat sinks to the bottom of the ocean, carrying your parents with it.

You wake up in a cold sweat. Checking your phone, you can tell that it's about 4 in the morning. It's storming outside you guy's tent, and the loud claps of thunder make you wonder if the others will wake up. Looking over at Max, you see him sleeping peacefully. He looks so cute, and you wonder if he'd stay up with you. After watching him for a bit, you decide to see if he's awake. "Max? Are you awake?" You whisper to him. He lays still for a second, making you think he's still asleep. After a moment or two, he rolls over and smiles at you. "Did the storm wake you up?" He whispers. You smile and respond, "No, I had a nightmare" Max frowns and asks if you'd like to tell him about it.

You shrug and respond, "Only if you'd like to hear" he sits up and agrees, of course he wants to hear. You tell him about your nightmare, and tell him that you hope it doesn't happen. Max nods and tells you that it probably won't, but that he has heard of people having nightmares of things happening right before they happen. He laughs as he says that, obviously trying to cheer you up a bit.

Now that your story is over, you realize that you're cold and notice that your blanket has fallen to the floor. You pick it up, and then see that under your bed is a dusty board game. Tossing your blanket on top of yourself, you pull out the game- Checkers. Max smiles when you pull it out, and you ask if he wants to play. He walks over to your cot and sits down beside you as you set up the board. He chooses red, you choose black.

You guys play about 15 games (with you winning a good chunk of them) until David walks up to the tent-site yelling "Rise and shine campers! It's time to begin our fun daily camp activities!" You chuckle as you hear Nikki and Neil groaning and attempting to wake up. Max puts the game away and places it under your bed, then walks out of the tent to go to -you assume- the Mess Hall. Once he's gone, you change into a black hoodie with white letters that say "Get me a drink that makes me roll a Constitution Save" with a 20 sided dice under it and toss on a pair of black jeans to match. You put your hair up in a low ponytail and put on your shoes before walking out of your section of the tent. Nikki and Neil aren't in their section (much to your surprise since you didn't hear them leave) but you shrug it off and head outside.

The air is chilly and damp, but at least it isn't raining anymore. You're surprised to see Max standing outside the tent waiting for you. "What the fuck took you so long? I've been waiting here for-fucking-ever," he complains. You chuckle and tell him that you thought he was going to go on to the mess hall. He just shrugs and starts walking there. You walk a little bit behind him, watching how he walks. You smile at him and feel yourself getting a crush on him. You shake your head, telling yourself that you only met him yesterday, you can't like him already! Annoyed with yourself, you walk back up beside Max as you guys open the doors into the Mess Hall.

All the other campers are in there already, along with David and Gwen. The Quarter master is in the kitchen, serving food to a girl with glasses and elf ears. You smile when you see her, thinking that she probably likes DnD and will probably recognize the reference on your hoodie. You and Max walk up behind her to get yourselves breakfast.

As the elf ear girl walks past you, she sees your hoodie and almost drops her tray. She catches it at the last second though, then goes to sit down. You smile, and both you and Max get your breakfast- pancakes. When y'all sit at an empty table, the girl comes over and sits herself next to you. She says to you "Hey there! You're the new camper aren't you?" When you smile and agree, she goes on, "Oh! Cool! I'm Nerris! I saw your hoodie, do you like DnD?" She asks you excitedly. Before you can awnser though, Max starts talking  beside you. "Holy shit Nerris, let Y/N eat her breakfast!" He scolds. You laugh and tell him that it's fine, the respond to Nerris that you do like DnD. After that, the three of you are silent as you all eat breakfast.

The second you finish, Gwen stands up and yells at you all. "Today's a free day you little shits!" A boy in an astronaut suit asks why, and she explains that "Why? Because it's going to rain! Now I'm going to be in the Counselors Cabin, so don't kill yourselves!" After that, she basically runs out of the room to go to the Counselors Cabin. David follows her, mentioning that he will have extra activities tomorrow to replace today's. You look over to ask Nerris if she would DM for you, but she's already gone. In a few seconds, it's just you and Max left in the Mess Hall.
