"I thought we had a plan. We were supposed to follow the plan together." Ember backed away from the door frame. She fell onto her bed feeling the tears starting to form again.
Cole closed his eyes. He could feel himself starting to choke up. He knew this would hurt. "Things change, Em." The boy walked further into the room. She could feel the bed move as he sat down next to her. "I didn't expect to get in. You know how slim NYU's acceptance rate is."
"Yeah, but you could have told me."
"I wanted everything to be normal until I left."
Ember sat up from her spot, pulling her knees up to her chest. She stared at the boy she loved. "But it's not normal."
"No." A small chuckle escaped from the boy as he looked into her blue eyes. "I guess it's not."
"What are we going to do?"
"I don't know."
"Long distance is hard," she mumbled, resting her chin on her knees.
Grabbing one of her hands, Cole played with her fingers like he usually did. "I know."
"What if we can't make it work?"
"I don't want to lose you."
"I don't want to lose you either." Ember turned her gaze away from. She couldn't look at him, so she kept her eyes trained on the window.
