The definition of darkness is the absence of light. You can see not see if but you can feel darkness on the tip of your fingers. It tickles as it brushes hauntingly against your soul.
Darkness. It can not be explained but by the weight on your heart. Darkness only comes when everything else is gone. Darkness is nothing...then it is everything.

Darkness was something I'd always known, ever since the attack on Konoha by the nine tails. I'd been kidnapped and taken hostage in the scramble. Not by an enemy of the leaf, but by a shinobi who's greed corrupted his very mind and heart.

As I kneeled on the ground of his room, my hands bound behind my back and my eyes covered once again by bandages I listened intently. It had been days since the man who had kidnapped me had left on a mission, leaving me without food or water until his return.
Leaving me only with my best friend, Darkness.

This had happened many times in the past when he would be on missions that took longer than expected, and I was left in the darkness.

Even when I was younger I had my mouth bound closed with a strange metal and leather contraption he had stolen from the T&I division of Konoha.

My home.

I was kidnapped and held hostage in the very place I grew up with, my family believing I had died in the nine tails attack.

As I sat there waiting, and shivering on the pile of blankets he had left me on I waited, and prayed I wouldn't be forever lost in this darkness.

I gently began to hum a tune, something I did when it got too silent and I was scared I'd lose all composure once more.

I jerked awake out the sound of the front door opening, soft voices echoing into the home of my capturer, and I realized I had fallen asleep, the ache in my shoulders proving this.

"Wow, look home clean this place is. They said he lived alone?" A soft masculine voice perked up my attention.

"Yeah, poor dude never got married after he lost his wife years ago." at the sound of a gentle feminine voice I felt a spark of hope in my chest.

Instantly I began to pull at the chains holding my useless arms behind my back, the rattle against the ground and the soft grunting noises I could make through the tightly bound contraption in my mouth.

"Yeah, remember the last house, now that was a mess. You'd think the dead would have given some-"

"Hush...Do you hear that?" At that, I felt tears prickle at my eyes before swiftly falling down my cheeks, and I pulled harder at my bound arms, ignoring the burn of fresh cuts that it brought.

"Sounds like it came from in here." I fell silent at the sound of their cautious steps in the direction of my captor's room.

At the sound of a door slowly sliding open I couldn't help but begin to sob, hoping beyond hope that this would be the end of my internal hell.
