It was one of the most comfy apartments I'd ever been in.Beckett's parents had offered him a two bedroom luxury apartment in exchange for decent grades and staying out of trouble. Julian was set to move in with him in a week. It was right outside of campus and sat half a mile away from the beach. A perfect location by most standards.
The nice mohagony hardwood flooring contrasted his creme colored walls. A couple pictures of him and his family lined the walls, making the place seem more homey. A gigantic flat screen sat in the middle of the living room in front of the leather couch - perfect for gatherings. The thermostat was touch screen and the whole place was equipped with an updated sound system. I couldn't help but feel envious. The place was amazing.
I twirled my iced tea around on the dark marble as I listened to Beckett's animate story telling, laughing along as he made jokes about Abby's odd obsession for horses.
"I used to do horseback riding when I was younger okay!" She defended herself, covering her face as her brown skin turned a shade of reddish purple in embarrassment. We laughed at her expense but it was all in good taste.
Beckett held a hand up to interrupt her, "That's the thing though," he was so into the story he was hopping around the kitchen. He was definitely tipsy, "No you didn't! It wouldn't be a weird obsession if you actually did horseback riding but I know you didn't." He called her out.
Abby crossed her arms, "Yes I did!"
I felt a warm presence behind me as I sat comfortably on my barstool. I tried not to jump as I felt a warm breath fan the back of my neck. A tattooed arm reached out in front of me to grab a nacho. Looking at his hands, I suddenly remembered them being shoved down my throat not all that long ago.
The conversation happening in front of me was tuned out into background noise as Harry's lips brushed my ear, "You're awfully quiet." He commented, his deep voice just above a whisper. I could listen to him and that endearing accent for hours. Too bad he never had anything nice to say.
I turned my head to the side so fast that my cheek brushed his nose, "Says the one who was just sulking on the couch for the past fifteen minutes." I replied quietly under the dim lighting, the others completely ignoring us as they argued back and forth.
Harry stood up straight and it was almost as though he could tell the future.
"Harry!" Abby whined, "You know me! Tell them I rode horses when I was younger." She urged him, pleading with her eyes as she tried desperately not to lose her insignificant argument.
"Of course she did," he agreed, leaning into the counter beside me, close enough that his arm was against mine, "I've heard stories, Abby is apparently incredible at riding." He winked at her as the others snorted at his crude innuendo. She screamed in exasperation.
Julian shook his head as he nursed his beer, "We should start this movie before someone gets black out drunk." He advised, nodding toward the living room.
Everyone listened to him accordingly and migrated over to the couch. Ariana flickered the lights off as we all got comfortable. I pulled a thick cotton blanket over myself and took a seat on the end. Much to my dismay, Harry sat beside me. However he left a decent amount of space between the two of us.
We watched a cheesy horror flick about a girl who killed all of her friends and was now haunted by her own demon. It was unoriginal and extremely predictable but Ariana jumped at every scare. Beckett made dumb jokes the whole time and Julian refuted them all. Halfway through the movie Abby fell asleep and Julian was nice enough to give her his blanket, before he fell asleep as well.
