Baden

As I’m packing for my trip back home tomorrow, I receive a phone call from Liza.

“Sooo friend, when were you going to tell me you are coming home to visit?” she says accusingly.

I smile despite myself, “it was meant to be a surprise" my Mom and her damn big mouth.

Mmmm hmmm!! Liza hums.  Again I smile to myself just imagining her face.

“So anyway I’ve told Whitney and Joe that you’re coming and they’re pissed at you for not telling us" she says in one breathe and I groan knowing I’m going to get an earful when I see them.

“Yes bitch you should be scared" Liza states.

“Anyway” she starts “Sunday, my house, 6pm dinner and don’t be late" then she hangs up without waiting for a response.

Like I could argue with that, I’d never hear the end of it if I tried to weasel my way out.

“Okay Mom" I say sarcastically to myself then hang up the phone.

After I finish the last of my packing, I hear a knock at the door.  When I answer it, I’m surprised to see Nathaniel at my door.

“Beta Nate” I say with a huge grin on my face.

Nate laughs a sexy little laugh and then says “oh shut it Taylor" rolling his eyes.

I laugh back because I enjoy teasing him.

“Want to go for a drink?” he asks.

I was taken by surprise at his asking me out for a drink, but I was interested and so accepted.

“Just let me get my coat" I say.

Twenty minutes later we find ourselves at a popular little jazz and blues bar called ‘Jaxon's'.

As always for a Thursday it was busy, but not so busy that you couldn’t have a conversation at a reasonable volume.

We take a seat at a booth on the far side of the bar and we both order a beer.
The atmosphere is electric and the vibe dynamic.

After looking around at the other patrons, I catch Nate staring at me with what looks like curiosity.

“So Nate” I pause to figure out what I want to say next, all of a sudden I’m nervous.

“So Baden" he mimics.

I clear the frog in my throat and then say.

“So tell me about yourself, I’ve been around the pack for the past 10 years.  We talk every now and then, but we don’t really know a lot about each other.

“Really Baden" he says disbelieving “out of anything, you can ask me, you ask me that” he laughs.

“Ha ha, just humour me would ya".

Still with humour in his eyes and a smile on his lips he says.
“Well my name is actually Barney Nathaniel Davidson, but I prefer to go by my middle name”.

That’s when I burst out laughing.
“Barney?” I exclaim, Nate just stares at me grinning undenying.

When I realise he isn’t kidding I laugh harder and then I say, “wow your Parents were cruel".

That’s when it was Nate’s turn to laugh.

“Hey they liked the name, they thought it was cute” he says,

“what on purpose?” I tease and he laughs some more.

The rest of the night continues on with what feels like familiar banter and a tonne of laughter.

We share stories of growing up, a secret or two and our dreams.

It was refreshing at how easy the conversation flowed, I was even more surprised at how well Nate and I got along, because he always appears so serious.

After what feels like hours, Nate and I finally leave the bar and walk back to the pack house where we both stay.

Once we arrive at my front door, I turn to thank Nate for tonight.

Then hesitantly he steps forward, lightly places my face between his hands and leans in and kisses me.

At first it was a sweet lingering kiss, warm, soft and gentle.
Then it becomes hot and passionate.
Nate sucks on my lower lip seeking entry.
A small moan escapes from deep in my throat and my mouth opens invitingly.  Feeling the intrusion of his tongue in my mouth, I savour his taste and suck gently on his tongue.
This time I hear Nate moan into my mouth.  Reluctantly we pull away slowly, breathing heavily.
We stand holding each other with our foreheads pressed together.
We look each other in the eyes and giggle at what just took place.

“Goodnight Baden" Nate says breathlessly.

“Goodnight Nate” I say back.

With a final peck on the lips, I enter my room, still thinking about Nate.
