13 years old-

My mom was very sick, the doctor said it was yellow fever. So I knew she wouldn't be around for long...

I was by her bedside and I held her hand.

"Baby... don't ever forget me, ok?" She said

I nodded "I promise mama..."

"I love you, mon enfant." She said

And with that she died.

I sobbed and cried but the doctor came and took her away "we have arranged a place for you to stay."

I nodded, wiping my tears "who is it?"

"A friend of your fathers, George Washington." He said

I nodded "alright..."

I packed up my important stuff and with that I was off to the Washington Residence from South Carolina to Virginia.

•••

A tall male was standing outside of his house and I was walked up to the door.

He smiled "hi, you must be frances right?" The man said, I presumed to be mr. mulligan

"Yes. But please call me Eleanor." I said "and forgive me are you Mr. Washington?"

"yes, but call me George." He said "why don't we go inside?"

I nodded as he grabbed my bag and showed me to my room.

"This is where you'll be staying. Now, you can get settled in here but me and my wife eat at 6 so feel free to come down and then tonight if you want we can discuss funeral arrangements for your mother." He said

"But I haven't the money."

"I will be taking care of the funeral. But I want it to go how you would like it too."

I nodded "alright... I'll be down for dinner but I would like to just sleep for a bit..."

He nodded "of course. My wife may stop in, is that alright?"

I nodded "yea... it's fine."

He nodded and left my room.

I grabbed a stuffed animal my mom had gotten me. I held it right as I felt the tears come down "I miss you mama..."

Finally I cried myself to sleep.

•••

I felt someone move a blanket on top of me and I woke up

"Oh dear I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you, you looked cold." A lady said

"No, it's alright..."

"Oh forgive me, I'm Martha Washington, Georges Wife."

"Nice to meet you Mrs.Washington..."

"Oh please call me Martha. Dinner should be ready here soon, if you would like to join us or we could bring it to you." She said

"No... I'll come down." I said

She nodded "alright dear. If you need anything me and George are the last door down the hallway."

I nodded as she left my room. I grabbed a book to kill time while I waited for dinner.

I made sure to hold the stuffed animal tight.

4 Years Later•••

I was now 17 years old. I still lived with the Washington's. George took on the roll as my father and Martha became a second mom to me.
