Third Person P.O.V-
Now, you could be clueless and still realize that Martha and John did not love each other but to make johns parents happy, they decided to have a baby.
Martha has wanted a kid, and didn't really care about the father but she was lucky to get pregnant before John died.
John was excited when she had told him.
John had always wanted a little girl. His little mini me he would look out for, a little girl so he could scare away the men who would try to court her, he would have his own mini family.
His Sunflower.
But that didn't happen for him.
He had died defending his country.
And never got to meet his little girl.
Now Martha.
Martha was upset. No, she didn't love him, but they were friends. She loved him as a friend, not as a husband and now she had to raise their child by herself.
She was only 4 months pregnant when she got the letter from her Father in law.
Dear Martha Laurens,
On Tuesday the 27th, Lieutenant Colonel
John Laurens was killed in a gunfight
against British troops in South Carolina
These troops had not yet received word
from Yorktown that the war was over. He's buried here until his family
can send for his remains. As you may know, Lieutenant Colonel
Laurens was engaged in recruiting 3,000
men for the first all black military
regiment. The surving member of this
regiment have been returned to their
masters.John leaves behind a pregnant wife, Martha, and their unborn child.
John is missing out on his child's life and he would be deeply devastated to had missed out on their life.
Sincerely,
Henry LaurensShe had dropped the letter and touched her stomach.
"I'm so sorry John..."
But she didn't let her life go to shit as you would've expected it to go.
She worked hard to make a life her her unborn child.
If it was a boy, John Henry Laurens, but for a girl Frances Eleanor Laurens.
5 months later Martha was bringing Johns child into the world by herself, only with her doctors.
The baby was a healthy baby girl.
The baby girl John has always wanted.
She had his hair, nose, and eyes.
The mini version of him.
She cooed and Martha fell in love "I love you already Frances Eleanor..."
•••
Days later she took the baby of John Laurens and Martha Laurens to her house.
Frances Eleanor was the pride and Joy of Martha's life, along with their maids.
Maids who were paid. She may have not loved John but she agreed with him.
She wished only if she could've started the first black military but she couldn't. For she was a women, a widowed woman, a widowed woman with a new born child at that.
She was planning to make this child's life amazing.
Keep her away from the dangers of the world.
Show her right from wrong.
Show her how bad the world is but with every bad thing there is a brighter side.
Something to make up for the danger.
From the terror.
From the Violence.
From the equality that wasn't there.
•••
As Frances grew up, the more and more she got like her father. She believed that slaves were horrible. Anyone who would own another human being was horrendous.
She believed in woman's rights, that they are as equal as men.
That they shouldn't be judged by their race, gender, or religion. That we were all equal.
But with that comes politics.
The part Martha didn't want her daughter to ever witness.
But with having her father fight for her country, she would grow up around it, no matter how hard Martha tried.
Frances was very adventurous, but with that adventurous comes disobedience.
She would ignore her mother's claims that 'horse riding was inappropriate.' That 'yes women are equal as men but they needed to work around the house and kitchen. Leave all the heavy work for the men.' But Frances didn't care.
She still worked around the house, watching maintenance whenever she could.
She rode her horse, Beryl.
But she would be caught as well.
But that didn't matter, martha loved her child but as a mother you would rather have your child safe than sorry.
But Frances couldn't see that.
That would be the only time her and her mother would ever argue.
And that was a good thing.
Other than that they both got along just fine.
Martha has been invited to the party George Washington would held every year but always decline it. She didn't know anyone. She why would she go?
She kept her child safe and that was all that mattered.
