Can pulled up outside Sanem's house and parked. He stepped outside, where he was immediately accosted by Melihat bearing a tray of food. He graciously declined, explaining he was on his way to dinner and ignoring her subtle as a sledgehammer probes for details.

He rang the bell and his eyes lit up at the diminutive woman who answered the door.

"Mevkibe hanim." He said warmly, kissing her hand and touching it to his forehead before pulling her in for a bear hug. She smiled up at him and waved him inside. Closing the door behind him, she took a minute to study him. Her smile faded and she stepped forward, reaching up to cup his cheeks, her eyes bright with concern.

"Oğlum, iyi misin? What are these dark circles? Are you not sleeping?"

As always, Can basked in the warmth of Mevkibe's maternal attention, adoring her for it. He shook his head.

"Ben iyiyim, iyiyim. Baya baya iyi." He said reassuringly. He didn't know what Sanem had told her mother about their breakup, or if she even knew. She maybe wouldn't have been so welcoming if she'd known. Mevkibe quickly dispelled that thought.

"When two souls are meant to share the same path, they will find their way. Even if their paths break for a moment, it will always intersect again. If not, it is because they were not meant to travel that path together." She paused & reached out to grab his hands in her own. "Oğlum, you and Sanem are fellow travelers. You'll find your way again." She smiled warmly, leaving Can staring at her in surprise and gratitude.

"Mevkibe-." Can started but stopped at the sound of steps on their stairs.

Sanem came down the stairs and Can's jaw dropped. She wore a pretty black dress and black heels, her hair loose around her shoulders. It was a rather sedate outfit compared to what she normally wore, but she looked stunning. She smiled at him, and as always, stopped Can's heart. Her smile was all he wanted to look at for the rest of his life.

Whoa, where had that thought come from? Shaken, he just stared at her.

She held a leg out, pointing at her shoes proudly.

"Look! Passionis brand!" She announced, grinning. He nodded and shoved his hands in his pockets uncomfortably.

"You look lovely. Shall we?"

Sanem looked at him curiously but nodded. She kissed her mother on the cheek and waited while he did the same, and then followed him out the door. She ignored her extremely nosy neighbors and waited while Can opened the door for her. She climbed into his truck and smoothed the skirt of her dress around her thighs, careful not to expose too much skin.

Can climbed in and his eyes shot down to her legs and then back up, where he stared determinedly ahead. The drive was short but it felt long. Sanem hated the awkward silence between them. They'd always been able to fill the silence with talk. Well, she would talk, but Can was always happy to listen. He would just smile at her while she talked and talked. He was always encouraging and interested. He never seemed to get bored of listening to her.

Sanem had to blink back tears. She missed Can so much. She missed who they'd become together, what he'd brought to her life.

Can glanced over at her and was dismayed to see a single tear slide down Sanem's cheek. He slowed down, pulling over at the side of the road. He turned towards her and tilted her face towards his, wiping the tear from her face.

"Sanem, iyi misin?" He asked softly.

Sanem looked up at him and the sadness in her eyes broke his heart.

"I miss you, Can. I miss us. I don't know how we got to this place or how to get back to where we were. I don't even know if it's possible." She cried, shaking her head and looking away.
