I kept driving down the road. It was almost dawn and I had five missed calls from my dad, but I didn't care. The city was nice when it was a bit dark outside. Lights flickered around me and I felt safe. For once in a very long time I could breathe without thinking about all the negativity in my life. I wanted to start a new life here and forget about the past, and the negative memories. I was willing to do that. It was time to do that. And it was time to drive home.
"Where the hell have you been!?" Dad yelled at me when I walked trough the door. "I drove around the city." I said. "I thought I had lost you too! Don't ever do that again." Tears escaped his eyes. "I'm sorry." I couldn't say anything else. "I didn't mean to scare you." Now, I was crying too. Dad gave me a hug and looked me in my eyes. "It's fine sweetheart, I was just worried." I nodded my head wiping away the tears in my face. "Sorry." I whispered.
I went upstairs to rest, and walked to my room.
I stopped and stared into my room, I needed to unpack my stuff, everything was still in boxes placed along the walls. I didn't really know where to start so I decided to ask my brother for help. I knocked on his door, no answer. "Eric, open the door, I need help." I said. "With what?" He asked, with a sleepy voice. He had been sleeping when I knocked on the door, which explained why he didn't answer. "I need help unpacking my stuff and I don't know where to start." I said. "Oh, okay, I'll be in your room in five." He said as he went up from his bed. "Cool.""Shit sis, you haven't done anything since we moved in? You know we moved in two weeks ago, right?" He said when he came into my room. "Yeah, I know,..let's unpack this shit." I said opening a box that had been piled on the many other boxes. It didn't take long before we had found everything I usually had in my room in New York. We talked about the things we liked about this new place and the city, and about the things that we didn't like and things that could be improved. We laughed and talked and then laughed again. I had missed these times, there hadn't been many since mom passed away.
Dad poked his head through the door creek, he must have heard us laughing. He joined us, unboxing my stuff all together, like a family.
It took a an hour or two before my room was all set and done. I looked at the two people standing in front of me. A tear left my eye. "Thank you, I don't think you understand how much I appreciate this moment. It was such a long time ago we did something like this. I feel like we are all feeling better, ready to move on." I said. Dad looked at me and said "Yes, sweetheart, I finally think we can move on."
"We deserve a great time, let's order pizza!" Eric said jumping up and down. "Are you 19 or are you 5?" I asked letting out a chuckle. We all laughed and dad ordered the pizza. The delivery guy came to our house pretty quickly. We paid for the pizza and gave some extra money for the fast delivery. The guy thanked us and left. "Soo, pizza and a movie maybe?" Dad asked. "Sounds good."
I had the best night in a long time. Time well spent with the people I love the most, my family. I fell asleep in the sofa and didn't wake up until next morning.
It was Saturday and I had absolutely nothing to do. I looked at my phone to see what times it was. "6am!?" I whisper-yelled. Dad and Eric were still sleeping in the sofa. I chuckled lightly, looking at them, both sleeping with their mouths open. I loved them with my entire heart, there was no doubt in that. I walked upstairs and went back to sleep in my bed, what was I going to do 6am on a Saturday morning anyway?
