Chapter 17

"The first game for the first years is finally over, and what a game it was!" Midnight said from her spot on the stage. "Now, let's take a quick look at the standings, shall we?"

A screen showed up behind Midnight that had the top 42 rankings on it.

"Only the top 42 will advance to the next round. But don't be too let down if you didn't make the cut! We've prepared other opportunities for you to shine." Midnight announced. "Now the real fun is about to begin. The chance to fully move into the limelight! Give it your best! Let's see what we have in store for you next. Will your wildest fantasies come to life? What could it be? The waiting is torture. Prepare yourselves, for this!" Behind her, the words 'cavalry battle' showed up on the screen. "Allow me to explain. The participants will form teams of two to four people as they see fit. In theory, it's basically the same as a regular playground game. But there is one difference. Each layer has been assigned a point value based on the results from the obstacle course. The point assignments go up by increment s of five, starting from the bottom. For example, 42nd place is worth five points, and 41st is worth ten. And the point value assigned to the first contestant is... ten million."

'Ten million?' I glanced at Midoriya, who looked absolutely terrified. 'Poor Midoriya. He's going to be targeted no matter who he has on his team.'

"That's right. It's a survival of the fittest, with a chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!" Midnight exclaimed. Then she started explaining the cavalry battle's rules. "First years. These are the rules you'll abide by. The game itself with last 15 minutes. Individual point values will be added up to reach your team total. Everyone will know how much you're worth thanks to your headbands. Swipe as many headbands as you can to raise your team's score. Stolen headbands must be worn from the neck up. So the more you steal, the harder it'll be to manage them. And another thing, even if your headband gets stolen or your team falls down, you can keep playing until time's up. This is going to be rough. You may use your quirks as much as you like. But, there are still rules! Make a team fall on purpose and I'll slap you with a red card. You'll be disqualified!"

"Did you hear that, Bakugo? You can't go around pushing everyone down." I smirked, looking at the blonde beside me.

"Shut up. I heard her, idiot." Bakugo growled, his face full of anger and annoyance.

"Now, you've got 15 minutes to build your teams. I recommend you get started." Midnight announced.

I sighed. "Fun."

From beside me, a ton of people crowded around Bakugo, asking to be on his team. I was shocked that so many people wanted to be on his team, especially since a ton of them were booing him before the obstacle course started. But I guess with kinda made sense. Even though he was full of himself, he was pretty strong, so being on his team would most likely be a sure way of moving on.

"Wait, remind me what your quirks are. And your names." Bakugo said.

"Wow, they're in your class," I commented. "Is it really that hard for you to learn your classmates' names?"

"Shut up! Why do you care?!" Bakugo yelled.

I rolled my eyes and didn't reply before sighing, "I have to find myself a team now..." 'Maybe I could join Todoroki's.'

"Bakugo. I was gonna try Todoroki, but he already picked a group." Kirishima said I sighed at hearing his words, 'Guess I'm not going to be on Todoroki's team. That sucks.' "So, hey. We should team up."

"Hey, Dumb Hair," Bakugo said.

"My name is Kirishima!" Kirishima yelled. "And my hair's not that different from yours. Come on. You wanna be the rider, right? So you're gonna need a strong front horse who won't be hurt by your blasts. That'd be me."

"I need someone with guts," Bakugo stated.

"My quirk was made for this! I got you covered, man!" Kirishima replied with a grin. "Let's go charging into battle together. Ten million. Bring it."

I turned around to walk away and look for a team but was stopped when someone put their hand on my shoulder.

"Hey, you can destroy icy-hot's ice right?" Bakugo asked, though it almost sounded like a command.

"Huh?" I looked at him for a second, a little confused before it clicked. "Yeah, I can. And if you want me on your team, I should be able to stop everyone on my team from getting stuck in his ice. And for shattering the ice, I can do that, too."

"Ok, then you'll be on my team." Bakugo declared.

"Um, ok," I replied, a bit shocked that he wouldn't want to destroy whatever team I was on, considering the fact that we don't really get along that well, but I didn't mind being on the hot-head's team. Though, personally, I think I would've preferred being on Todoroki's team or someone's team that had a leader that wasn't full themselves. But Kirishima said Todoroki had a team already, so I wouldn't be able to join his team. Also, I think most of the people from our class already have teammates, and even if they didn't, I can't deny that Bakugo is strong, no matter how full of himself he is. So, my best bet was just joining his team.

Bakugo also had Sero join our team. So it was Bakugo as the rider, Kirishima as the front horse, Sero as the back right, and me on the back left. Bakugo told me to block us from any attacks from other teams and shatter Todoroki's ice if he needed me to.

It didn't take long for the 15 minutes to end and Midnight to start talking again, "Oh, good. It's time to get this party started."

"After 15 minutes to pick teams and talk strategy, 12 cavalry teams are preparing to go head to head!" Present Mic announced. "Come on, everyone! Get your hands in the air! It's time for a UA battle royale! Let me hear ya scream!"

I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes to help calm my nerves. 'I can't mess up. I have to focus on making sure me and my team get through this.' I opened my eyes and stared ahead, determination filling me.

So, the cavalry battle is about to start. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how I want to write it, but I'll figure it out.

Also, this story reached just about 2000 reads!! It was only at 1000 this Friday, so thank you for that! I never thought I'd have this may people take the time to read my story. Thank you so much for that, you have no idea how much that means to me. I'm happy that I can write a story that people will enjoy reading.
