The blinds were closed but the morning light still shone through. Tiny gaps in the plastic let it in, hitting Kalo's face as tiny dots. The intermittent breeze coming from the fan on their shoulder sent shivers down their body and encouraged them to get out of bed and get the day started. Sitting up they reached over to the fan pushing down hard on the button to switch it off. The humming of the fan slowly stopped and the room became definingly silent. Kalo sat for a moment taking in each ache formed from being curled up all night. Their hands fumbled around the creases of the sheets to find their phone and check the time. 7:12am. What was supposed to be a five minute lay in had run over by a mile but there was no real rush. With a few flicks and taps the music was on 'Byegone' by Volcano Choir. Wireless earphones were something truly sent by god. The song was a perfect for a movie, to imagine yourself in one anyway. Boxers on they opened the bedroom door and leaped across the hallway to the toilet hoping their previous alarms had not yet woken the others in the house. On and off the toilet in a flash they flushed it and ran their hands under the cold water for a moment. The running of water is something magical, it can ground a person back to themselves and brings a sense of piece along with it. With damp hands Kalo flattened their blondish hair down and gave the mirror a smile. As they turned to the door it began to open and they halfheartedly walked into it "Fucking hell!" Kalo stumbled backwards as Elliot continued to push the door into them "Take your time" Elliot said, she began purposefully squishing them behind the door. Wearing a hoodie baggy and long, it swamped her completely and was something she wore constantly. Kalo looked at the messy ringlets which were on her head. They grinned at her as she grabbed her toothbrush from the holder "You know I don't like you watching me" Kalo removed themselves from behind the door and hopped out the room, into their room where they shoved on a fresh pair of socks and a black top with the same pair of jeans which they'd been wearing for a week.
A moment looking in the mirror to make sure the outfit didn't look hideous or anything, they then began to pack their bag. By the time they were fully packed Elliot had gotten dressed. She was wearing an outfit practically identical to what they were wearing. Kalo stood from their one knee stance and looked at their friend, glowing with confidence she was standing in the doorway looking down at them with some form of pity "You have no idea how to pack a bag do you?" Kalo's head shook and they stepped to the side moving their hands through the air, encouraging her to pack it for them. She tutted and knelt down, turning the bag completely upside down she started over. While she done so Kalo snuck out the door and went into the kitchen to get some food, with a choice of a week old banana or cereal with questionable milk they went for a small coffee. While the kettle boiled they stood leaning on the counter, watching the bubbles form inside. Their eyes were still slightly sleepy and the bubbling of the water was almost hypnotic, making their tiredness even worse. Three tea spoons of the dirt like substance into a mug and a healthy helping of the boiled water, usually milk would accompany the mix but as said before, it was a little questionable. Holding the mug firmly in their hands they shuffled into the bedroom once more, Elliot was still packing the bag and it seemed to be more organised than Kalo ever could have made it. Elliot enjoyed coffee but needed her mind to be focused, no caffeine to mess her up. Only traces of alcohol from the night before possibly. Zipped up, Elliot placed the bag on Kalo's back, they grunted and groaned at the weight of it then walked towards the door to put their shoes on. Elliot put on her large puffy coat and they left the house, leaving the key in the door.
