A light shower of rain in the early hours of the morning had left the ground damp. As the temperature began to rise so did the humidity. The smell of damp concrete filled the air. Elliot walked ahead with her phone in hand looking at the map "Will it be hot today?" Kalo asked, already feeling the sun creeping up on the back of their neck "Boilin' apparently mate. Are you gunna be ok with all that on your back?" Kalo breathed in deeply and power walked forwards so they were walking parallel to Elliot. Walking down the pathment the two stayed left as to not get in the way of the cycle path. Cars rushed past, all in a hurry to get somewhere. Staying close to Elliot, Kalo tried to see what was on her phone but the reflection of light off the screen made it almost impossible to see "Surely we've walked this way enough now you know how we get there?" A glare down at Kalo almost stopped them in their tracks. Elliot did not like their nitpicking at her preparedness, she knew if they didn't have the map they'd somehow get lost, even if they had been living in the area for what was three weeks now.
Eventually she begun to recognise where they were due to the large shops which surrounded them. She put the phone in her pocket and started a conversation. "What will we do for dinner tonight?" She asked smirking, hoping Kalo would say the answer she was thinking "Errr...Chinese takeaway?" "Yes!" Elliot shouted jumping slightly as she stepped, Kalo laughed loudly at her excitement bringing a few looks of disapproval in their direction "We can order them on the way back from the shop later yeah?" Kalo said running their hand through their hair quickly then rubbing their face with their hands to try wipe the sleep away. Finally the two reached Apache Square, one of the newest buildings in the area, the shopping centre had only opened a month ago. 8:17am, on Elliot's phone; they had time to kill.
Walking around to where they would soon enter they found a bench and perched on it. Kalo finally took the bag off their back and sighed "If busses weren't so traceable life would be a lot easier. I wouldn't be dead right now!" Elliot chuckled and their dramatised speech and went on her phone to make a call to the house "Hey, just thought I'd let you know we're here" the voice on the other end sounded hoarse as they'd just woken up "Who is it?" Kalo asked, whispering in Elliot's other ear "-I don't think we did." "Who are you talking too?" Kalo dug their chin down onto Elliot's shoulder "Zee!" Elliot yelled. Kalo stood up and ran around the bench to pull the phone from her hand "Give me it, I want to say good morning!" Elliot grunted and pushed the phone into Kelo's face "Hi Zion" Kalo grinned at Elliot and she rolled her eyes "How's your head feeling?" "Fine." His tone of voice was flat as he tried not to seem annoyed "Okay well drink some water, Elliot is reaching her hand out to me right now. She's asking for the phone back so I think I've got to go. Bye, bye, bye" Elliot finished her conversation with Zion then let him hang up "That kid man, he needs to stop buying everyone drinks it always ends like this" Kalo's head was nodding along with Elliot as they stared at some guy in the distance. He was rugged looking and seemed to be quite agitated "What do you thinks wrong with him?" They asked pointing subtly at the men "Drugs probably" "mmm."
Another man wearing his work uniform was walking in the direction of the agitated man, Kalo braced for a confrontation "We're going to kill us all, around and around, an, and the cycle hasn't stopped! Please! The hospital, where I was, I was just there and everyone was out of bed!" His voice was shaky and echoed in the almost empty street. He'd grabbed the work man by the collar when he screamed this in his face. The work man pushed him away and brushed him off before speedily jogging towards the doors and going inside. The agitated man fell to the floor sobbing and began to scratch at the floor with his fingers. However, It was half past. "Put the bag on" Elliot said giving Kalo a hand up "You were right, drugs" they said struggling to put on the straps "He seemed more crazy than men on drugs, maybe he was from an insane asylum?" Kalo burst out laughing and almost spat in Elliot's face "For sure man, if there's one of those round here I'll check you in next week shall I?" Elliot nudged them as they walked toward the door.
