Sophie's POV
~
Everyone hates Mondays. But I'm pretty sure I hate them just a little more then everyone else.
I slugged my way into my pickup on Monday and off I was, ready to be held hostage in the prison they call school.
Just kidding, school's okay, but Mondays really aren't my thing.
After I arrived at school I made my way up the stairs to where my locker was and noticed something. The empty locker next to me was now being stuffed with books and folders. New kid?
Most things about high school pretty much suck. Point made.
But, at my hell of a high school, Tigerwood Prep in the lovely Pittsburg, not everything is horrible.
For example, my locker situation. At Tigerwood lockers are alphabetical. Calum Hood, Marlee Hopkins, Sophie Hollis. You get the point.
The locker to my left had always been vacant. Until now.
I nudged Calum at my right, who was getting his chem textbook out.
"Cal!" I whispered, and pointed down at the male figure left of me.
"New kid?" he mouthed. I shrugged.
I tapped the boy, who jumped back in fear.
"Oops sorry!" I said. "Hey, do I know you?"
Those blue eyes. I wouldn't miss them anywhere. It was the boy from the coffee shop, and he was wearing a black sweatshirt, ripped up jeans, yet another beanie, and the same Vans.
"Hi," he grunted.
"Hey I served you at Starbucks!" I exclaimed. He nodded back shyly and gave me a slight smile.
"I'm Calum Hood!" Cal said and reached his hand out. The boy's pupils grew tremendously as he looked up at Calum. Almost as if he was a celebrity or something.
After an awkward fifteen seconds, Marlee approached.
"Guys oh my gosh I'm gonna fail my English exam- hey who's this?" she said, talking a mile a minute.
Today she was wearing an oversized knit sweater, yoga pants, Uggs, and furry socks that peeked out of her boots. A.K.A, the essential November outfit.
"Sorry I got to go," the boy mumbled.
"Wait we didn't catch your name!" Calum called as the boy hurried off, but it was too late.
"Well obviously his last name starts with an H," Marlee stated, gesturing towards the lockers.
"Or a G," I suggested.
"Or maybe I for Irwin."
"Ashton!" I exclaimed as Ash approached us with a cheeky smile plastered across his face.
"Well we can get his name second period, let's get to class!" Marlee said and we all started walking to the first period class we shared, chemistry.
"Who's name?" Ashton asked.
"New kid," Calum explained.
"Ohhhh."
It turns out we found out what Mystery Boy's name was before second period, because he had chem with us.
"Class, we have a new student," Ms. Albright, our teacher, announced. Ms Albright was old but always really sweet teacher.
The boy stood there shyly and rubbed the back of his head. His foot tapped nervously and his eyes were on the floor while everyone looked at him.
"Introduce yourself to the class, Luke," Ms. A said, patting his back lightly.
"I'm Luke Hemmings," he mumbled. Calum, Ashton, Marlee and I all shared a knowing look. H for Hemmings.
Honestly, I was super excited I had a locker and at least one class with this kid. I wanted to get to know him.
After the bell rang, I thought I'd help him out.
"Hi Luke, I'm Sophia Hollis, but most people call me Sophie. Would you like it if I helped you find your away around the school 'cause we're locker neighbors," I blabbed, walking out of class.
"No thank you."
"Great, if you show me your schedule I'll see if we have- wait, did you say no?" I asked in realization.
He put his head down and walked faster away from me. I didn't even get a glance and those crystal blue eyes. I'd never felt so damn rejected.
