Chapter 5

Luke's POV
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
"Ugh," I groaned. I had fallen asleep on the couch again, and now the alarm on my phone was waking me up. I slapped the snooze button and groggily sat up and focused my vision.
"NOOOOO!" I screamed, covering my ears and closing my eyes while frantically searching for the remote. I located it, wedged between the cushions of the couch.
I pushed the power button and sighed with relief.
"Luke!" my dad yelled in worry, running down the stairs, slowing down when he saw me.
"Yeah?"
"You scared the hell out of me! What's going on?" he asked.
"Oh, um, I couldn't sleep about three hours ago, so I starting watching Once Upon a Time on Netflix. It kept playing through the rest of the night, and when I woke up, it was still on and there were some huge spoilers I hadn't seen yet that were playing..." I explained, scratching my neck.
"Seriously Luke? I thought you were dying or something!" he exclaimed.
"Sorry Papa," I said, chuckling. "I'll make breakfast."
It was Monday, and I had about thirty minutes to eat breakfast, get dressed, and drive to school. Not a lot of time. That's why it was very stupid of me to get out the egg carton and scramble some eggs.
I had a jolly good time doing it too, and by the time I was done I only had five minutes to get dressed and get to school. Oh, and eat.
"PAP!" I yelled "THE EGGS ARE READY, I GOT TO GO!"
I rushed upstairs and shimied myself into a pair of jeans and quickly threw on a t-shirt, beanie, and my leather jacket.
I rushed downstairs, gobbled up an egg or two and grabbed my backpack off the hook in the foyer.
"Bye Luke," dad said, chuckling.
"Byeee!" I screamed and ran out to the car.
I was hoping this frantic ride to school would not include getting pulled over by the police. Luckily, I made it safely to school, but eight minutes late.
I rushed my way in and sprinted into chem.
"I'm, h-here," I panted as I entered the classroom. There was not a soul in sight.
"Where is everyone?" I wondered out loud.
'Maybe it's actually Sunday,' I thought, but it was doubtful. I wandered around the hallways, confused as hell. Other kids sat in classes glumly working at their desks. Where is my chem class?!
"Luke?" a feminine voice called. Sophie?
"Hey, where is everyone?" I asked, as she paced down the hallway. She was wearing a blue hoodie, yoga pants and combat boots. Her hair was pulled into a side braid falling down her chest.
Sophie laughed. "We went to the library. Are you late?"
"Yeah, kinda," I admitted.
"Well I was just going to use the bathroom. Do you know where the library is?"
"No," I said, hiding my face in my hands.
"Awe it's okay," she said, resting her hand on my shoulder. I shivered, her touch sending electric shocks through my spine.
"S-sorry," I mumbled. She looked lost in thought.
"Just wait for me outside the bathroom and we can walk to the library together," she suggested.
"Sounds good."
I waited silently, tapping my foot.
"Okay let's go," she said, walking out of the ladies' room.
"So I was thinking," Sophie started as we walked to the library. "Marlee, Ashton, Calum and I are going to see the scary movie Annabelle tonight. You wanna come?"
I was shocked. Someone actually wanted me to come to a movie with them? I hadn't been invited to anything since...
"Okay!" I exclaimed, maybe a little too excitedly. I was smiling ear to ear.
"Cool! Here's my number," Sophie handed me a small little note with her digits. Almost as if she had it ready, waiting to give it to me.
"Thanks!" we arrived at the library and luckily the teacher didn't even notice I was late.
'This is gonna be a good day,' I thought.

Sophie's POV
Truth is, I was scared as hell to see Annabelle. The Conjuring was scary enough, and now we had to see a whole movie based on that creepy ass doll? Oh goodness.
Marlee and I drove to work together in my pickup after school.
"I invited Luke to the movie," I told her. She looked skeptical.
"Oh really?" she asked, smirking.
"What!?" I said, throwing my hands up in the air in surrender.
"DAMN IT SOPH KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!" Mar screamed and I cracked up, refocusing on my driving.
"Well what's wrong with inviting Luke?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just think you have a thing for him."
"Excuse me?" I stared at her.
"You heard me!" she exclaimed, grinning. I shook my head in amusement.
~
The movie started at 7:20 and we all arrived at 7:10. I mean we didn't have to come that early, it's a Monday night!
"Remind me why we are seeing a 7:20 show on a Monday night?" Ashton asked. We were all just waiting for Luke.
"Because it's fun- oh hey there's Luke!" Calum said, waving our new blue-eyed friend over to the bench we were sitting at.
"Hey guys," Luke acknowledged all of us, but he was looking right at me. He was wearing his usual look- jeans, leather jacket, Vans, and a beanie. Literally this was everyday for him.
"Let's get our tickets!" I said and we paid the cashier and made our way to the concession stand.
"I'll have a large popcorn, a large red slushy, and Sour Patch Watermelons please," I ordered. The crew scared at me in shock.
"What? A girl can eat what she wants, am I right?"
"Hell yeah. I'll have the same thing as her, only add extra butter to mine and a box of M&Ms," Marlee ordered.
"That's my girl."
We all piled into theater 3. We were the only ones there except for another older couple. Here's a Monday night movie for ya.
We sat at the second to last row at the top. Ashton sat at the far end, then Marlee, Calum, Luke, and last but not least me.
The movie started. It wasn't bad at first, but it got freaky quick.
There was a view of the woman looking under the door. It stayed silent for a few seconds...
"AHHHHH!!" I screamed. There's Annabelle. I was freakin scared!
Luke laughed, I buried my face in Luke's shoulder. He was hesitant at first, but he put his arms around me. Throughout the whole movie we stayed in that position.
I liked cuddling with Luke, he made me feel safe. And if I couldn't get that kind of safety from my father, I guess Luke Hemmings would do.
