with their diamond studs and their golden egos
they rule the empty streets with iron hands
and smell like teen spirit
ii.
their cars run fast just like their hearts
racing along with reckless abandon
with no set destination
only the wind in their hair and
the squeals of delight from their souls
iii.
their school is in the backseat
and their liquor in the front along with their lovers
making them buzz like
nothing they've ever known
iv.
their wings take them far away
to places with iron hearts and golden teeth
promising the world and more
v.
and some of them don't come back
the s a m e
there are those that shed
their golden jacket of egostistic pride
and they will forever regret that ride
vi.
and there are those who wish to fly once more
except in a metaphorical way
as they step off of the roof of their apartment building
and as they hurtle to the ground
they are f l y i n g again
