As we walked out, Devin pulled me off to the side of the parking lot and looked into my eyes. He had a worried expression on his face. "Jen, he didn't touch you or anything, did he?" He asked. My eyes widened because of his question. How dare he ask me that! I blinked and replied sternly. "I had just met him..." He let go of my shoulders and sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm sorry, Jennifer.... I just get really worried about someone including my brother taking you away from me..." He said, frowning. I sighed. "No, it's fine..."

He walked around me and dialed his mom's phone number. As he was waiting for her to pick up, he stared out at the bustling streets. The city was pretty busy by 5 o' clock. This is why mom would pick us up early to avoid traffic. The wind blew through my hair. It was cool and satisfying. It was such a release since our summers here were so humid and hot. It makes you want to curl up and die. I lifted my chin high and let the cool air soak into my skin. I smiled, closing my eyes.

I heard Devin's footsteps as he struck a kiss on my cheek. I opened my eyes. I saw Devin standing over me. "She'll be here in 10 minutes..." He said, pulling me into a hug. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his. He pulled away gently. "I'll protect you..." He said softly. I blushed and rested my forehead on his chest. I stepped away and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I logged onto Facebook and scrolled through my News Feed to see if anything new came up with my friends.

Suddenly, a status in bold caught my eye. It was probably something I should not have seen. It brought tears to my eyes. Dakota Hall: "Had so much fun with my boo, Devin! Love you, cupcake!" I glared down at the status, it took me a few moments to process what was going on. "Devin..." I started to say. "What is this all about?" I asked, on the breaking point of strangling his neck. I held out my phone to him, revealing the status. He narrowed his eyes and stared at it.

"I... I don't know what she's talking about." He replied tripping over his words. I shot him a frown. "Really?" I growled. Just before we could finish our conversation, a beep from the red Suburban echoed into the parking lot. I glared at him and pointed a lone finger at him. "We're not done here, Devin James Gauldin!" I yelled as I stormed inside the car, this time climbing into the way back away from him.

The whole car ride home was silent. I didn't even look at him. I was pissed, enraged... betrayed. I honestly didn't know what to believe or even who to believe. Was he cheating on me? Did he even do anything with her? Or was it just a friendly gathering?Maybe... I shouldn't be so mad at him. Maybe I should just let him explain himself. Could I have been too harsh towards him?

Am I not good enough? Is something wrong with me? Dammit! I had so many questions yet little answers. It was like I was trapped. Trapped and held down by chains. A neverending war that was fought. It was overwhelming. It wasn't what it seemed. To be honest, when I was with Devin, I felt something different with him. I felt safer. I felt protected. But now what I just experienced with Blake, I feel like he could be more than a broken and wandering soul.

As the car pulled into the driveway, the inside rocked from side to side as it hit the curb. Devin shot me a sorrowful glance before opening the door and stepping out of the car. I crawled out of the back and opened the door for myself. "Dammit, now I feel bad..." I muttered, jumping down onto the carport. I followed mother inside and looked at Brian, who was glued to his computer. I looked down at the floor and walked to my room, shutting the door silently, vanishing from reality. I sat on my bed and opened up my laptop, pushing the button to turn it on.

After it took a moment to load up and typing in my password, I logged into Skype and looked down the row of people to see who was on. I smiled to see my friend, Meredith, online. I clicked the Webcam and Microphone Chat and waited for her to respond. She responded after a few moments of silence.

"Hey bestie!" She said, waving to the camera, excitedly. I smirked and waved at her. "Hey, you'll never believe what happened to me today... I need to tell you a few things..." I said, preparing to set her on a ride of unbelievably excitement.
