"Jessi, come here! You have to see this!" David called out to me. David is my best friend, I've only known him for a few months but I some how got attached to him. I jogged over to him with my gray pistol in my hand. I came up beside him as he pointed foreword and smiled, "Look at it. Beautiful isn't it?" He got a hold of my free hand lightly and gently pulled me foreword to get a better look at what he was talking about, a beautiful sight. Silver and blue mountains shined across the way, pine trees with multiple shades of green lied in a pit. I stepped foreword one more step crouching, feeling my foot slide across the gravel a bit. I looked down to see the long drop off about a centimeter from my toes. Even the ground beneath me was beautiful, the microscopic gains of rock had beautiful shades of blue and an off shade of white. I rested my back knee onto it, hearing the faint rustle of the rocks shuffling around it.
"I've only seen this place in pictures," I whispered to David. He stepped closer to me and held onto a small trees branch beside us for support as he leaned foreword to gaze at the view, "Gorgeous, Gorgeous," He said softly as though he was in a dream, reaching out his hand closing his eyes and smiling. "I feel like I can almost touch it, Jessi." Watching David do this made me smile, he looked so at peace. Seeing him like this made me happy, so long as he was happy, so was I.
We sat there for a few minutes together, watching the sun set over the silver and light blue mountains. It was more than a gorgeous sight, really. I then heard my team in the background. I have always had trouble bonding with them. David told me he just pretends to be like the way they are to get them to accept him, to not him questions.
"Come on! You guys are taking ages," I heard a female voice shout bringing out her last word over her shoulder, slightly jumping on the tips of her toes with her shotgun in hand. "lets go I don't want to wait anymore!" I saw James walk up slowly behind her reloading his MP5 with new rounds, "Calm the fuck down Maddy, its not like we're in a rush." I heard Maddy gasp and I smiled, she seemed to be a really prissy girl when you first talk to her, but she can kick ass.
I sat on the gravel listening to their arguing, slowly loosing concentration on it. Once the sun went down I stared up at the moon and the stars. I realized a while back that David went to go sit with Jack by the fire James had started to keep warm and cook, "I feel like I can almost touch it.." my mind repeated from when David was next to me. He was always a positive person which, sadly I cannot relate to. It is nice to be around him though, he can be really sweet. I thought about all of his scientific theories and remembered listening to him telling me about his dream to become an astronomer. David sees beauty in everything, so much so that hes always joyful and he always wants to talk.
Then I thought of myself, I am almost the opposite. I never really had any dreams or goals, I am a very quiet person. I sometimes become mean for no reason, I admit I have a bad temperment. I am usually a sad person, but I do find beauty in a few things I guess.
I heard the gravel shifting behind me and a chain hitting someones leg, James was walking up to me from behind. He handed me a bowl made out of flimsy metal, filled to the top with a brown liquid and chunks of rabbit meat, "This is all we have, dont complain about it and finish it. I cooked it for you." James said sternly, he was usually mean to everyone. Only at some points would he talk to anyone with respect. "Thank," I started before he cut me off, "Dont mention it." I looked over my shoulder slightly, watching him walk away. I saw him walk with a bowl similar to mine and sit over by a dark black lake reflecting the jet black sky. I turned away and tilted my bowl up to my lips, feeling the heat from inside the cup rise up against my face.
