Emmit's point of view-

With a sigh and a slight tremor in my limbs, I stepped out from the council chamber, my focused thoughts and composure finally scattering across my mind like broken glass. They had agreed to send out the spies on account that Grayson came back and signed the documents that I had no authority to sign as I was not the real emperor and only a stand in. They also agreed to evacuate Iron mere once the spies arrived to save time and avoid having to send out extra airships that were supposed to go into the front lines.
I haven't been shaky like this since the last time Grayson left me in charge when he was off fighting in a war. I had so many letters and documents to attend too but whatever this thing Nathan had warned me about that was wandering the palace, we had to find it. However, if these things can hide in shadows and manipulate memories like he had spoke of, then my... Grayson's entire army would be in jeopardy if they came across it. The thought of it made my stomach feel weakened.
I became so lost in thought that when I had begun to walk, I stopped again after only a few steps. Why would those creatures be here? What were they planning on doing? How are we supposed to get rid of them? If there are anymore, what is going to happen? I had to hold my own mouth as saliva built up, my body threatening to vomit as nausea hit me like a steed. I swallowed the saliva and held the vomit back.

Relax, Emmit. You're overthinking this.

I took in a deep breath as I shut my eyes, relaxing my thoughts and tense muscles that made my limbs ache. I repeatedly told myself to relax, to focus on finding solutions rather than pile questions over questions. First things first, figure out what these creatures are, or more so, find the creature that made it in the palace.

"Sir," I looked up as a guard approached, his helmet off to show his short brunette hair, his voice more clear without the helmet on. "I fear that whatever has infiltrated the palace may be able to over here your plans. Are you sure that it was wise to speak with the council at this time?"

We walked together as we spoke. "If so then it's too late to put the meeting on hold. Just another reason to find this thing as soon as possible." While on the outside I kept myself calm, internally I was a nervous wreck.

He seemed a bit worried as well, speaking quiet in case our ears were not the only ones listening. "I suppose...while we're on the matter, men are scattered throughout the palace. Some men are even heading to check on the magi guild and place in requests for some magi to come here and find ways to fend off further attacks."

I nodded and agreed that doing so was the right choice. If this thing had any connections to black magic as Lalea and Endy had warned, then light magic from the magi should be able to fend these creatures off. He appeared on high alert, often opening his mouth to converse but kept himself from doing so in fear that we were not alone. It did bring up an awkward silence until quick, heavy footsteps began getting closer from down one of the halls.
Nathan ran out from behind one of the corners, tripping after calling out my name. We ran to him as he fell to the floor, gasping and barely able to keep his eyes opened.

"Nathan, what's going on?"

It took him a moment to say anything. "By the...by the library. There's more of those monsters with an unknown amount of casualties. One of the guards was possessed and we were ambushed. Thankfully Endy was able to take a majority of them out, however..."
