Abbi was the first to wake. The sound was small, nearly non-existent.
"Master Luca." Abbi shook him. "I don't think we are alone anymore." she whispered in his ear. He woke with a silent start. His senses telling them they were in danger.
"Alpha Ilstara, is there another way out of here? I think the hunters found us." he woke the man.
"there is but we cannot all make it through easily. I'll evacuate the injured first." he woke everyone else keeping them quiet as he issued his orders.
"there are five of them." Abbi whispered.
"I can smell them." Luca agreed.
"I will go last, they won't hurt me and they won't expect me to collapse the chamber." she whispered.
"can you do so safely?" he asked in disbelief.
"maybe, I know I can block the entrance." she smiled.
"good." Luca kissed her forehead. They watched as those who could slipped through the entrance. There wasn't enough time to get them all through.
"We need to hurry." Abbi spoke to Isabella as she moved closer to the entrance. The hunters carried lanterns which threw their shadows across the walls. It was impossible to gauge how close they were.
"I'm going to break their lanterns and cause a short fire to stall them." she told Luca before summoning up the wind as she had many times before. She poured her turbulent emotions into it giving it enough strength to slam against the person furthest back. She heard their muffled curses when they toppled over and the leader's lantern broke. The scent of fire and oil drifted to the pack hurrying them along. The men put out the fire and moved quicker, more silently.
"Get back." Abbi whispered as they backed toward the exit.
"Abbi, be careful." Luca kissed her.
"I will." she smiled as he slipped into the tiny escape route after Isabella. The men all entered the cave as Abbi slid backwards into the tiny crawlspace concentrating on the entrance.
"Damn it they must've heard us coming, if you hadn't knocked me over Steven we would be killing the remaining werewolves now." a man her father's age reprimanded him. "they can't be far, we'll cut them off." someone else spoke before Abbi used the wind to shake loose the rocks. Only one hunter had made it through the entrance before it caved in.
"damn-it they must've set a trap. Go kill them we'll find a way out and join you." the man who reprimanded her cousin shouted. She quickly hid the crawlspace with a large rock and slipped through silently. The others had to be warned. She found them all cowering in a smaller cavern pressed together away from the exit.
"there is at least one hunter outside." Luca whispered in her ear.
"I couldn't keep them all from escaping." she admitted with shame. Abbi felt the fear of all those in the area, a baby in the arms of it's mother being soothed. Three orphaned children huddled near their Alpha. Her rage boiled over as the wind began to howl. Isabella glanced at her shocked at the look she saw in Abbi's eyes. The people outside attempted to hold their ground even as the wind picked up harder and faster. Abbi rushed toward the entrance slipping through before Luca could stop her. The first man she encountered she grabbed his gun slamming it into his face and knocking him to the ground. The wolves took her hint running out into the clearing, avoiding the shots coming from the other man. Time seemed to stop as a bullet whizzed past Abbi toward the elder alpha. Suddenly the wind stopped the bullet as easily as a stone wall dropping it to the ground as her attention turned to her cousin. He stood shaking in disbelief. That bullet should have reached the old werewolf. Her fury enveloped her picking leaves up and throwing them around away from the werewolves and toward the single young hunter in the tiny clearing. Her rage fuelled scream terrified him but he had no chance to run. Abbi threw the force of her fury and rage at him knocking him out with the shear force.
