Sunday October 12th
It is around noon, and I don't have to be into work until three, seeing as I volunteered to come in today. But I had answered the FaceTime call from Colin and I'm still deciding if that was a mistake or not.
Last night Cade and I had stayed at the diner for another hour or so and then I went home, surprisingly managing to sneak back in without anyone noticing. But that also means that I only got six hours of sleep at the most, and I couldn't take my mind off the topics of last night.
I have never been that open about my situation to anyone, including Shan. So the fact that it was so easy to let it all out in front of Cade shocked me.
And Colin could notice. "Are you even listening?"
"Huh?"
"Just hear me out. Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. I wish I could be the result of them. Like they would be one of the hottest couples."
"Yup."
Colin is quiet for a minute, causing me to return my attention to my phone. "Are you okay?"
"Just tired."
"It's Sunday, how did you not get good sleep?"
I sit up in my bed, all of a sudden feeling jittery. God I hate lying. "I don't know, I was up until almost six having a existential crisis."
"Did you think you had ice cream left in the freezer but it wasn't there?" At first I think Colin is joking but when I look at my phone to see his serious expression, I'm told otherwise.
"Umm.. no."
He sits in silent confusion before sighing and saying, "than I don't know what an existential crisis is."
The boy. I swear.
As Colin continues on telling me the beauty of Jennifer and Paul I receive a text.

"Yeah, why?""Really Jesse! Putting me on pause, we're playing this game now?"
I ignore the teenage boy acting like my three year old cousin to watch the three dots indicating that Cade is typing.

"I'm down"I click back onto FaceTime to give my attention to Colin once again. And the face I receive from him is pure disappointment. "I thought I was more important to you than whatever hoe your wasting your time texting."
"Colin, you're the most important pers-" I stop short when I receive a message from Cade that's a cup pong iMessage game. It was probably a mistake.
But once again my phone buzzes with a text about 8-ball.
It had now come clear to me that Cade wanted my number so that we could text like actual friends, not just to warn me to cover for him.
"Wipe that stupid smile off your face. I can hear your phone buzzing."
"Coli-"
"Who is it? Because there's only one correct answer."
I lean back and roll my eyes. "It's just Mat-"
