Note: In this chapter, there's a flashback within a flashback so I've put "~" around it if that makes sense. Sorry if that makes things confusing.

Alex's POV:

As soon as I woke up I had a sense that something was up. Perhaps it was my heightened paranoia talking but something just didn't feel right. I rolled over to the side of my bed and picked up my phone from the side table. I had a few texts which I ignored and instead opened up my phone.

After scrolling Instagram a little, I ended up on Twitter, to be met with a surprise. At the top of trending was the name of my girlfriend.

Oh no.

Hesitantly, I pressed her name. The first tweet I saw read "BREAKING: Perrie Edwards leaves Little Mix in a shock to bandmates."

Shit.

I kept scrolling to see another load of tweets detailing how she'd left and subsequently hundreds of tweets by confused and devastated fans. On top of that, many were already coming up with conspiracy theories and it broke my heart to see some blaming me.

This certainly wasn't ideal. Everyone had wanted to keep the Perrie situation under wraps until we could think of a good way to smooth over the story and have it make as little impact as possible.

I sighed and opened up my messages.

Have you all seen the news?

Jesy: What???

Jade: yep just turned on me telly ahaha

Jesy: Oh noooooo

Jesy: Fuck what do we do now???

What can we do? She's not gonna release a statement from wherever she is so we just have to deal with it

Leigh-Anne: Omg are you joking we haven't even announced it ourselves and it's been leaked!!

And again Perrie leaves us in an impossible situation ffs

Jade: don't worry abt it, it'll be fine

Tell that to Twitter

There was a break in messaging, I assumed due to the girls checking Twitter.

Jade: oh Alex don't let it get to you

Jesy: People don't know anything

Leigh-Anne: We all know it wasn't down to you.

Do we? I'm starting to think that maybe it was. She'd been more subdued, what if that was cos of me?

Jesy: Alex you can't blame yourself for this, it wasn't your fault.

A few days later, the already inconvenient situation became even more intolerable.

Somehow, I don't even know what happened, but news came out about our split. It was what I was dreading; I could do without the extra publicity right now. Being a footballer as well, you have more enemies, in the delightful form of rival fans. All over Twitter was more confusion and conspiracy, along with the inevitable jeers from other teams' supporters. Even some Little Mix fans had taken to sending me hate, blaming me for the band's break up.
