You all ready for that stupid and crazy plan of Adam's?
I should hope so :3
Adam explained his plan to the others, trying to be as quick and clear as he could be with his thoughts spinning and his stomach churning faster and faster the longer he talked, his sunglasses feeling like they were constantly slipping down his face. Thankfully, the others were quiet while he spoke and then silent for several seconds after, staring at him while they processed what he was saying.
"You're kidding me," Seto said finally.
"He's not," Mitch said, shaking his head. "But he is insane."
"No, listen," Adam said, jumping to the defence, "I've just got a feeling that this will work. I've handled magic before, I can do it again."
"Do you really need me to remind you what happened the first time around?" Seto asked. "I don't want to go through that again Adam, and I'd be surprised if you do."
"But he does have a point," Jerome said. "I mean, it might be better a second time around. If this works. Maybe."
"Adam, are you absolutely certain this is going to work?" Mitch asked, deadly serious.
Adam took a deep breath. "Yes," he lied.
Mitch sighed. "Alright fine, let's do it. I've got no better ideas."
"Any idea is better than this one," Seto grumbled, but he walked over to Rebecca Lee who was sitting nervously on her stool, hugged her crippled legs slightly, her arms shaking in fear. The sorcerer knelt down beside her and quietly began explaining their plan, trying not to panic her any more than she was. She seemed to take it pretty well, especially for what it could mean for her.
"Good luck," Jerome muttered to nobody. He and Mitch moved to the right while Adam stepped left, the three of them forming a loose semicircle around Rebecca, with Mitch and Jerome standing several steps further back.
Adam tried to ignore the churning in his stomach and the worried thoughts that were zipping around his head. What if he had misjudged the magic's speed? What if he had overestimated Seto's strength? What if he had overestimated his own? How could he even be sure that this crazy idea was possible?! If it backfired, he could be the cause of three of his friend's deaths and Rebecca's...
Rebecca started shaking as the magic surged through her again and Seto rapidly stepped back, moving behind Adam but standing closer to the young girl than the others. His purple magic gathered around his fists that he held up, ready to cast.
"I hope you're right about this Adam, or else this is going to go really bad, really fast," he muttered.
"Seto, not helping, please," Adam said back shortly, trying to keep his voice as calm as he possibly could.
Like before, Rebecca raised her head at the voices, her eyes glowing that brilliant, vibrant green. The mist congealed around her hands and feet and it rose up to attack a second time. Out of the corner of his eye, Adam saw purple shields flash into existence in front of Seto, Jerome and Mitch but he needed to be completely focused on what was ahead. The green magic lashed out in all directions and Adam, with his senses as heightened as they could be, ducked and dodged around the bolts while still staying closer to Rebecca than the others, dimly hearing the bolts slam and sizzle against Seto's shields.
He heard Seto yell something and glanced over to see Jerome and Mitch running to the side as the green magic twisted and curled into the air, spitting daggers towards them that they barely managed to dodge before washing green fire over Seto's shield and trying to snag at Adam again. As they split up, the magic seemed to pause for a moment, gathering around Rebecca and almost, almost seeming to analyse them.
Come on, Adam thought. I'm the closest, I'm the biggest danger to you, attack me.
After a second, the magic seemed to realise that as well. A small portion of it lashed out at the other three almost as a warning for them to back off before streams and ribbons of green flooded in Adam's direction, all intent on pushing him back or killing him, whichever came first. He stood his ground as best as he could, feeling each curl of magic pass a hair's breadth from his skin as he darted and ducked and lept around them. Even with his enhanced senses he could barely keep up with the speed of the magic, his concentration divided between avoiding the strands and glancing at each one of them, waiting for the right moment, his heart beating faster with every second that passed, but the nervousness had left him.
He saw one ribbon, thicker than the rest, lash out at him and with a thrill of adrenaline, instead of dodging it Adam stepped forward to meet it, reaching out his hand and grabbing the strand of magic, wrapping his arm around it. It burned his skin but he held on tighter, feeling the intangible will of the magic trying to force him away and his own will forcing it to stay. For the moment, it obeyed, creating a line that connected him to Rebecca, sizzling and crackling with energy.
You're mine, he imagined telling the magic, trying to bend it to his will. You belong to me, not her.
The magic fought back, intent on killing him but he resisted it, ignoring the burning sensation on his arm, still trying to twist the magic, to deflect the other strands that feebly drifted his way, to force to it obey him, to make its will his.
Then a lot of things happened at once.
Adam felt the will of the magic suddenly crumble and met with no resistance, he stumbled forward a step as the strand of magic that connected him to Rebecca Lee glowed a brilliant green light and surged up his arm, entangling around his chest and neck and arms as multiple green ribbons shot out of Rebecca and connected with him, sending out such a bright light that Seto, Mitch and Jerome were forced to look away, blinking spots out of their eyes.
But then the air was filled with young Rebecca's screams and then Adam was screaming as well, the sounds of their pain resounding in their ears as the light grew brighter and brighter, flowing from Rebecca to Adam in an endless river that seemed to go on and on-
And then it was over. With a loud snap, the magic suddenly disappeared and Adam was thrown backwards onto the street, rolling before coming to a stop, smoking and unmoving.
