After the ninth period bell rang, Anayah grabbed her bag and walked out into the treacherous California sun to start her walk home. Her parents were both at work until 9pm, so she could walk as leisurely as she wanted to. Death glided about a half a mile behind her, stopping when she did. Suddenly, her walk was interrupted by the scent of fresh flowers and dirt. Anayah looked to her left and saw Mrs. Bartholow, a sweet old lady who took a liking to the goth teenager. Her grandkids and kids never visited, so Anayah was a substitute grandkid.
"Good afternoon Mrs. Bartholow." She said as she walked by. The woman looked up from planting and smiled. She got up to embrace Anayah and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"How was school today hon?" she questioned.
"Alright. I'm passing all of my classes."
"Amazing!" Suddenley, her phone rang from her back pocket. "Sorry hon, I have to take this. It's Henery, he probably needs help with the car. Have a nice day hon!" The old woman gave Anayah another hug, then went inside her home, leaving Anayah with Death. SHe turned to him and walked over, so they were only about a foot apart.
"You should be more like her. You should talk. Or do something." Anayah stared at the Reaper and waved her arms in front of him. "Nothing?" She then proceeded to poke his shoulder, and then he vanished into mist. The teenager rolled her eyes amd started to walk off when she felt a sharp oang in her leg, and blacked out.
