Sitting in my room just the three of us seemed empty, it was like eating a pitted peach. You take your first few bites expecting to something big and hard and it just never happened. Caden was my peach pit, he was always there when I needed help. When I needed someone to talk to and cuddle with and just generally make me feel better, he was the first person I called. It's unthinkable knowing it'll never be that way again, regardless of us letting him back in our group. I knew things would never be the same.

I reached between my mattress and the bed frame, exposing seven rolled blunts. Doing drugs was a habit I had tried very hard to break but right now I just needed to be high. I just needed something to hold onto. Plucking two from the pile I flipped over my body and delicately placed them so nothing would spill. I adjusted the mattress so no one would notice if they walked through the door and before I knew it, I was infused in an oasis of smoke and forgotten dreams.

Walking up is always a struggle for me. Mainly because I didn't want to, ever. Not with everything or anything that goes on in my life. Honestly, I had two things to live for with were Nat and Kota. I would say my grandmoother but I know I was just a burden upon her sholders. Essentially beause I heard her talking on the phone to someone about it.

Nevertheless, I rose at the crack of dawn ingulfing myself in a morning shower once again. I feel as if I'm always absolutely dreadful in the mornings. How can people even stand me? I chucked to myself and sat the floor of the shower. Sometimes I just like to sit and think, water cascading down my face all the way to the tip of my toes. I sat the for a while, brainwashed in my own thoughts until there was a loud banging on the door.

"What the hell, Onyx lets go!" It was Nat.

"Shit.." I mumbling basically out of the shower. I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself, not even bothering to dry off. I ran into my room and quickly threw on a light wash denim skirt and a pale peach chiffon top. I threw up my hair into a messy ponytail, not messy because I wanted it to be but because I had like negative three minutes to get out the door. I frantically searched for my black high-top converse and slipped them on. I grabbed a gold necklace with an elephant pendant dangling from it's twisted chain, I can put that on while we're walking and ran down to the main house.

School today was an absolute nightmare. I'm just not as happy without Caden with us. Kota and Nat seemed fine, I don't understand. I was walking through the halls and two girls came up to me.

"Hey!" one girl said, her voice way too cheery for my taste.

"Hi.." I replied.

"Okay, so our school doesn't have a lacrosse team for girls and we're trying to get one together!" the other girl said.

"And?" I asked, annoyed.

"We want you to join!" They said in unison, then looked at each other and laughed. I felt sick to my stomach.

"Okay well I don't play sports so," I retorted.

"But we saw you in gym, you're so good!" The blond girl said. I just struggled. "Listen, I'm Melissa Clark. Here's my number," she said and handed me a card. What the hell why does she have business cards? "Just promise you'll think about it and give me a call?" She squinted her eyes looking at me, who knows why.

"Yay!" the other girl with the red hair cheered. "I'm Jada by the way."

I smiled and said, "Well I'd better get to class, I'll see you." I turned around and rolled my eyes.

"See ya on the field!" Melissa called after me. I just laughed and kept walking.

Finally lunch arrived, one of the only periods I actually enjoyed. Nat and I were sitting down at our table waiting for Kota. "So what's new?" I smiled at Nat.

"Eh, the same bastards hanging around. What about you?" She said, evidently bored.

"Not much." I responded. "Although the weirdest thing happened today."

"What's weird?" Kota chimed in, joining us.

"Yeah, what?" Nat pushed.

"Okay so I was walked to French today, yeah?" They both nodded. "And these two girls walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to join the lacrosse team they're trying to make." I rolled my eyes.

"Well are you gonna do it?" Kota asked.

"What? Of course not! Why would I?" I said in disbelief.

"Onyx," Nat whined, drawing out my name a lot longer than she needed to. "Why not? It would be good for you."

"Yeah Onyx, it would be a lot of fun." Kota agreed.

"You know I don't like team sports." I complained.

"Which is exactly why you should do it! You're gonna need to work with people at some point." Nat said astutely.

"Fine." I moaned. They both smiled and high fived each other. A smile even crept onto my face just thinking of it. It was true, I actually really liked the lacrosse unit we did in gym. "I'll call Melissa after school."

"Melissa?" Kota asked.

"Oh, she's the girl who is apparently running it." I replied. Kota just nodded. What's up with him?

"We should ditch school early," Nat suggested. "I honestly can't handle another second of school."

"Thank the Lord, yes please." I pleaded.
