Carter's POV

Driving with Harris and Red to school was nice. It made it all the better that Red was there. She's such a cool chick, not worrying about fitting in or the latest gossip or even designer clothes. I loved her style. Her cute character tees were pretty hilarious with some of the sayings. I always thought she was pretty cool and she wasn't like the girls at school. I always told Harris that she was nice but I couldn't ask her out or anything because I didn't think that she'd be interested in a guy like me. She never showed any interest.

As I was walking to Maths, I saw Hannah hassling Red again. I honestly don't know what the hell is wrong with Hannah. She's always on Red's case. This time she was ranting and raving about how 'disgraceful' Red is. That girl really needs to get her head checked. Normally Red ignores Hannah's torments, but Hannah hit a nerve when she said that Harris only speaks to her 'cos he pities her, which isn't true. Harris and I both think that she's nice and sweet. I saw Red walk past me and her eyes were filled with tears. I wanted to stop her but she started to run, so I just figured that I'd see her at Maths. But I didn't.

Marissa's POV

I ran. I passed Carter and saw the confused look on his face and I ran faster, not wanting him to stop me. I ran through the school gates and was out on the streets. I ran further and found myself on the dodgy side of town. I was scared but I didn't want to go back to school. I didn't want to go back home. I had no one. Nothing. I didn't care. No one would bother. Maybe Alana, but no one else. I passed a couple of guys that looked about two years older than me. They didn't look dangerous or anything. Some of them were smoking and were sitting on their bikes and a few were standing.

"Hey there little lady," one of them smirked, "whatcha doin' here all alone?" The thing about me is, I don't like people dropping of letters to words. It was a habit that I couldn't get rid of. So me, being me, decided to give an English lesson, to strangers, in a place that I didn't know.

"Dude, it's 'what are you doing' not 'whatcha doin'!" I said and the group of them chuckled and I didn't expect that!

"What's your name?" The guy that I just told off asked.

"It's Marissa, but everyone calls me Red," I said confidently, hiding my fear.

"Well. I'm Jessie and that's Trent, Josh, Dave, Simon and Carl," he said pointing to the rest of the guys.

"Hi," I said waving to all of them.

"So why do you look like you've been crying a river and like you've been running like the devil was on your heels?" Jessie asked and I laughed at his analogy.

"Wow, you can actually make sentences using the complete words!" I said chuckling and everyone laughed.

"Hey!" Jessie whined, "don't avoid the questions Miss Smartypants!" I laughed, feeling a little better and told the guys what had happened.

"Man, that Hannah's a bitch!" Trent yelled and I chuckled.

"Yeah, she's a spoilt brat that one!" Josh said.

"What are you going to do now?" Dave asked and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't know. I didn't think that through. I just ran."

"Well," Carl said, "we were heading home 'cos Jessie here is going to to cook us lunch to experiment on us. Why don't you join us?" He asked and the guys nodded their heads in agreement.

"Um, I don't know," I said nervously.

"Oh, come on Red, it will be fun. You can figure out what you want to do there!" Jessie exclaimed and I agreed. I hopped into Trent's car, as I refused to get on any of their bikes, and we were off.

Trent pulled up in front of a huge house and my eyes popped out. It was a gorgeous house and it had a fountain in the front which was magnificent.

"This house looks amazing!" I gushed and Trent chuckled.

"It sure is. All the guys live here. It's Jessie's place and he and his brother, who's at school, live here and Jessie took us all in. We were basically hood rats but Jessie saw some good in us. We all got together and decided that we want to be better people so we've been trying to get into colleges and get jobs and stuff. Jessie and his brother basically gave us a new lease on life."

"Wow! That's amazing Trent! I'm so glad that you guys want to do and be better! I'm actually in awe at all of you!"

"In awe of what?" Jessie asked startling me and I pulled him in for a hug and all the guys chuckled.

"You are so awesome Jessie, you should get a tee like mine!" I said and he patted my back.

"Thanks Red, but why am I so awesome?" Jessie asked.

"You did so much for these guys! And here I thought you'll were dodgy dudes when I first saw you!" I laughed and they chuckled.

"Come on, let's go inside!" Jessie said, still chuckling.

We went into the house and I was blown away. The house was furnished beautifully and was neat. You wouldn't have guessed that guys only lived there!
