Chapter 4

“So, where’s your perfect Romeo of a boyfriend,” said Larry. His eyes turned slightly cold as he looked at Stephanie.

We had been talking non-stop about random subjects that we liked, so I could get to know them better when Larry decided to change the subject.  It turned out I had a lot in more common with them than I thought.

“His name is Anthony, and he isn’t perfect, no one is,” she responded, her voice had a hint of annoyance and something else I couldn’t name. I didn’t know these two for very long but I could already tell that something was going on between them and I couldn’t help but wonder why Larry didn’t like her boyfriend.

“Oh, I didn’t know you had a boyfriend,” I added to the new conversation.

“Yup, and he isn’t here yet because he is a senior. Seniors move in tomorrow, duh,” she aimed the last bit at Larry, who he scoffed and rolled his eyes.

“Oh that’s right, I forgot he was an old geezer. Tisk tisk, I wonder what your parents would think…” he said. He smirked and put his hands behind his head, his elbows pointing outward from his body.

Stephanie ignored him. She began to tell me a little bit about Anthony and how they met and started dating. It sounded like he was a romantic. It made me secretly wish I could have a boyfriend. Maybe I could if every time I came close to boys I didn’t freak out.

“Ugh, I’m sick of all this fricken girl talk, I’m going to my dorm.” Larry stood up and fixed his clothes.

“Oh my geeood it’s almost four o’clock! Anna, we haven’t taken you for a tour yet like I promised!” Stephanie said, her eyes wide and bulging at the digital clock near my bed. We had all been talking and goofing around for so long we didn’t notice the time fly by.

“We?” Larry questioned, “Uh no, I’m gonna pass, I didn’t promise anyone anything.”

Stephanie scowled at him but didn’t say anything. He obviously had been seriously annoyed or mad at the whole Anthony talk and wanted to leave. I wished him goodbye as he left.

“What the hell was that all about?” I asked while going to the bathroom to fix up before we left.

“Don’t ask,” Steph replied from her side of the room.

I decided to respect her wishes and drop the subject. I would find out eventually, if they were actually going to stay my friends. Which surprisingly, I hoped they would. After ten more minutes of making ourselves look good we left the room, keys in our pockets and smiles on our faces.

“Alright, I think we should check out building one and walk that way, the school is a giant circle of buildings and things typically go in order,” she squeaked happily as we reached the elevator in the middle of the junior dormitories.

We got down to the bottom floor and headed out the back towards the center of the school. There was a huge space in the middle, a large garden and courtyard. There were benches, fountains, and tons of flowers throughout the whole thing. The smells of the various types of flowers blooming were intoxicating. It looked amazing. As Steph had explained, we started walking to the left and I noticed the curved outdoor walkways that were above us attached to each building. They were covered, so if it rained I wouldn’t have too much of a problem getting to class without getting soaked. I hated when my things get wet. If my diary ever got wet, I would probably scream and die.

“Okay so this building to our immediate left is the sophomore and freshman dorms.” She held her hand out like some sort of tour guide and I shook my head. She was taking this way too seriously, I thought, but then I saw a small smile form in the corner of her mouth and I knew she was just playing around. As we walked I continuously looked out into the courtyard trying to experience every view that I could. I got a different view every ten steps I took. It had so many plants and shaded areas to sit under. If someone sat in a certain way I’m sure you wouldn’t be able to see them.
