Harry stepped off the train, closely followed by Draco, and walked towards Hagrid who was to the side bellowing for all the first years to come to him. Harry smiled to him, in reply Hagrid shouted over the bustling witches and wizards "'Ow are ye, Harry? Coping with everything alright?"
"I'm good I think, I'm a bit confused but for the most part I'm coping just fine" Harry shouted back.
"Well that's good, I hope everyone treats you alright here at 'ogwarts" Hagrid told Harry as he got closer.
Harry nodded, then turned to Draco, who was watching Hermione cross the platform towards the other first years. Ron was walking beside her, trying to talk to her. Hermione avoided both of their gazes, Draco sneered in her direction and turned back to Harry "Why the hell is this taking so long?" he growled, losing his temper already when he had just exited the train not five minutes ago. Harry shrugged, not sure how to answer him without making him more angry.
"Alrighty then, first years follow me, wouldya?" Hagrid yelled as he led the group of students down a path towards what looked like a lake. Sure enough it was a lake, the banks were lined with small boats, big enough to fit about four people. "This is the Black Lake," announced Hagrid, "Up to four people in each boat please!"
Everybody started jumping in the boats, trying to get with the people they wanted to sit with. Harry followed Malfoy into the but closest to them, all the other boats were filled but Ron and Hermione were still standing on the bank "You can sit with us" Harry said politely. Draco sent an icy glare at Harry and scooted down the small bench making room, hoping for Hermione to sit next to him, Harry did the same, he even was hoping the same thing, but secretly was certain Hermione would choose him. Hermione glanced in the boat and quickly decided on taking the seat next to Harry. Draco made a scene by sighing really loud when Ron sat next to him, then fixed his eyes on Hermione for the ride. The young witch noticed her admirer and uncomfortably looked away, and scooted closer to Harry to make him jealous. Draco quickly looked away with a scowl on his face, they had just arrived on the other side of the Black Lake. All the first years stopped and looked at the great looming castle of Hogwarts, then rushed to get out of the boats and head to the castle. Hermione got ahead of every body and practiacally ran to the giant doors, Hagrid came after her and opened the doors. The young witches and wizards went in a single file line into the Great Hall, they were all looking around with excitment and a bit nervousness for the sorting. "Which house do ya think I'll be in?" "Hey, I bet I'll be a Ravenclaw!" "I'm hoping for Slytherin." The excited talk of the first years could be heard all through the silent Great Hall.
