In last chapter I gave tips on how to create Japanese and foreign names for OC's, if you're using the sub names for the characters in your series. This time we're taking a slightly different approach on the names. That is when you're using dub (mostly the English version) names for the characters.

Inazuma Eleven is one of those popular children anime where the English dub names are just as popular with the fans as the original ones. Other similar series are Pokémon, Digimon and Beyblade for e.g. The naming of characters goes slightly different than with sub names.

Please note that I have never written using dub names. Only my main characters currently have dub names, and they received the names like 8 years after their creation. This is why I might have many things wrong in here, so I apologize in advice.

【Nationality】

This is the first thing you should consider, what do you want the origin of your OC's name to be from. Despite being English dub, not all of the characters have purely English names. Most of the original Raimon seem to have names of English/Irish/Scottish origin, but you can see the different nations in GO. Tsurugi has Russian first name, Shindou's is Italian, while Kirino's is popular in Spain.

Yuuichi/Vladimir calling his younger brother Kyosuke/Victor by his diminutive Vitya.

At this point you're freely to use whatever nation/country of origin you want

At this point you're freely to use whatever nation/country of origin you want. Be creative! But remember one thing. When creating family remembers stick to the nationality you choose. I suggest avoiding using names from various nations for your OC family (example mixing Japanese, Italian and African names) unless you have a good reason for it.

Take into notice that there are names that are universal and used in various countries (sometimes the same sometimes in slightly different form). One example of this is Maria. The name you're using doesn't have to originate from the country you're character is from - it's okay as long as it's used there. For example, I have German name despite being Finnish.

To be honest, names don't have to be cool, they don't have to be uncommon. Common names are easier to read and remember. If a reader needs to check every single time how the name is written, if you yourself forget how to write it, or you have too many middle names, it's not a name that is functional.
